Last week, our students attended the Special Olympics Kansas 2025 Fall Inclusive Leadership Summit. Teachers participated in a dedicated track focused on Unified Champion Schools Best Practices, while students engaged in leadership development and learned about their individual youth sessions were planned and led by youth leaders with and without disabilities, modeling true inclusion in action.

A truly special part of the summit was meeting Loretta Claiborne, an inspiring athlete and advocate who was born partially blind and with an intellectual disability. She has competed in over 26 marathons and earned numerous medals in the Special Olympics. Her Catholic faith guides her message of perseverance, inclusion, and love for all people. Loretta reminds us that, “God made me special — and He made you special too.”
