Latin teachers Joseph Zebrak '87, James Murphy '99, Aaron Graora '08, and Fr. Pierce Gibson, S.J., took Philadelphia by storm last week at the Jesuit Latin Colloquium! They made the trip to Philly with their ancient ballista in tow, putting on a wonderful demonstration of the ery. More than 40 Latin teachers from around the country, along with several Latin classes from St. Joseph’s Preparatory School, witnessed the jaw-dropping force of Saint Ignatius' own Roman ballista. #AMDG

On Monday and Tuesday, all Latin classes competed in the 6th annual Back Alley Brawl chariot sprint races! All students used the same chariot and raced at breakneck speed down the alley next to the Magis Athletic Center.
Fr. Gibson, S.J.’s team of Groza and Miller posted the shman division, while Mr. Laco '03’s team of Turner and Paul took top honors in the sophomore division. Mr. Murphy '99’s junior team of Kowalski and Cooney claimed the crown for the juniors. In the senior division, Ben Esenwine and Hunter Zebrak helped Mr. Murphy secure victory with the fastest overall time in the competition!
As for Mr. Walcutt '16, Dr. Keefe '87, and Mr. Zebrak '87, it looks like they’ll need to spend a little more time training and a little less time on declensions before next year’s race. 🏆

Meet our most recent student feature, Simon Toth '27!
Hometown: Solon, Ohio
Grade School: Saint Rita
Favorite Class:
“Fr. Gibson: Other than being wicked smart and being able to carry on a conversation about pretty much any subject matter, he's just been the most down-to-earth Being able to go up to him and talk about academic, family, or even college topics has never felt intimidating.”
Activities & Interests:
“I love to ski, scuba dive, and go backpacking. Out of those three, backpacking is by far and away my favorite as it provides me with an opportunity to ‘escape’ all of the stresses of my day-to-day life and just to be able to enjoy God’s creation–nature.”
Advice for Freshmen:
“Don’t be afraid to challenge yourself. Push yourself to meet new people, find ‘your’ group of people, explore and try new things–clubs, sports, service initiatives—as there is truly something for everybody at Ignatius.”
Get to know more about Simon's biggest fear, where he wants to go to college, and even his favorite sandwich in his full Student Spotlight. 🔗 ignatius.edu/p/~board/stude…
