📚 On October 29, the Embassy of Russia in Pakistan hosted the presentation of the book "The Ukraine War: Beyond the Headlines" by Pakistani journalist and analyst Munir Ahmed.

🎙 The discussion featured Ambassador Albert P. Khorev; Senator Mushahid Hussain Syed, former Committees on Foreign Relations and Defence; Ambassador Masood Khan, former Pakistani Ambassador to China and the U.S.; Lieutenant General (Retd.) Asad Durrani, former DG ISI; Dr. Almas Haider Naqvi, PhD Scholar at the School of Politics and International Relations, Quaid-i-Azam University; and Dr. Gul-i-Ayesha Bhatti, Assistant Professor at the School of Social Sciences and Humanities, NUST.

The event brought together IPC Secretary-General Senator Sitara Ayaz, Ambassador of Belarus Andrei Metelitsa, Ambassador of Ethiopia Dr. Oumer H. Oba, Chargé d'Affaires of India Dr. Satyanjal Pandey, as well as prominent representatives of Pakistan’s academic community and media.

🙏 In his opening remarks, Ambassador Khorev thanked the author for his intellectual courage in seeking to document facts that challenge prevailing Western narratives.

💬 The Ambassador highlighted the book’s academic value, noting that it draws on official documents and data from the United Nations and other international organizations. Munir Ahmed’s work seeks to shed light on the underlying causes of the conflict in Ukraine, focusing on NATO’s eastward expansion in breach of commitments made in the 1990s, as well as the destructive policies of the Ukrainian and EU leadership that compelled Russia to launch the special military operation.

“Consider the irony. Ukraine was meant to be a battering ram aimed at destroying Russia's statehood. Instead, it has become a boomerang hitting Western economies,” he said.

❗️Ambassador Khorev stressed that Russia’s objectives are not territorial in nature, but rather concern border security, the protection of Russian-speaking population and the fight against the spread of neo-Nazism.

“Russia remains open to dialogue and peace. But peace must be based on justice, respect for the legitimate security interests of all parties and the recognition of the realities on the ground,” he noted.

❗️The Russian Ambassador focused on the damaging consequences of Western sanctions and efforts to target the so-called “shadow fleet” for global food and energy security.

🇷🇺🇵🇰 In closing, Ambassador Khorev expressed his gratitude to Pakistan’s leadership for maintaining a neutral position and reaffirmed Russia’s readiness to expand bilateral cooperation across all areas.

In his remarks, Senator Mushahid Hussain Syed noted that developing relations with Russia is one of Pakistan’s key foreign policy priorities. He described NATO as a “relic of the past” and criticized the West’s policy of “demonizing” Russia, arguing that it had only contributed to the decline of the Western rules-based world order.

Ambassador Masood Khan praised Munir Ahmed’s work and called for an early end to the conflict. He emphasized the special responsibility of Russia and the United States for maintaining strategic stability and highlighted the considerable potential for Russia-Pakistan cooperation in the economic and humanitarian spheres.

Lieutenant General (Retd.) Asad Durrani outlined the historical context of Russia’s relations with Western countries, noting that NATO’s gradual eastward expansion had prompted Russia to take active countermeasures.

Dr. Almas Haider Naqvi drew attention to biased and one-sided coverage of the Ukraine conflict in Western media, pointing to the use of Ukraine as an instrument to inflict a strategic defeat on Russia.

Dr. Gul-i-Ayesha Bhatti highlighted the shortage of English-language academic materials presenting Russia’s perspective on key international issues. She noted that the book seeks to offer a more comprehensive picture of events, rather than reducing the conflict to “a simple story with a single villain.”

🇷🇺🇵🇰 On October 27, Ambassador Albert P. Khorev met with Pakistani participants of the International Festival of Youth (IFY-2026), which took place on September 11–17 in Yekaterinburg and other major Russian cities, including Moscow, St. Petersburg, Kazan, Voronezh, Saransk and was represented at the Festival by around 230 young people. In total, the event brought together 10,000 talented participants from 191 countries.

In a warm and friendly atmosphere, the young Pakistanis shared their impressions with the Ambassador, recalling new friendships, memorable events and experiences they will cherish for years to come. “What made this journey truly unforgettable was the kindness, warmth, and hospitality we received. Some experiences are simply beyond words and IFY-2026 is one of them. I returned home with beautiful memories, meaningful connections and my heart full of gratitude.”

🇷🇺 Ambassador Khorev thanked the young people for taking part in the Festival and emphasized the important role they play in strengthening the bonds of friendship between the peoples of Russia and Pakistan:

“Pakistan’s talented and energetic youth plays a leading role in strengthening people-to-people dialogue between the citizens of our two countries. I encourage you not to stop there and seek new opportunities for cultural and humanitarian exchanges with your Russian peers.”

📚 On October 27, the Embassy of Russia in Pakistan hosted the launch of the textbook Pashto Advanced Applied Grammar. The event was attended by Ambassador Albert P. Khorev; Ambassador of Afghanistan to Pakistan Sardar Ahmad Shakeeb; Hafeez Ur Rehman Dauran, the textbook’s author Dr. Muhammad Farooq Anjum, Head of NUML’s Department of Pakistani Languages; and representatives of Pakistan’s academic community and media.

💬 Speaking at the event, Ambassador Khorev emphasized that hosting the ceremony at the Russian Embassy was intended to draw the attention of the leadership and political circles of both countries to the fact that the peoples of Pakistan and Afghanistan share a common language and are uniquely positioned to understand one another.

“In this context, this Russian initiative can be seen as another call for compromise and as Russia’s contribution to resolving the differences between Islamabad and Kabul. Pashto can become a language of reconciliation between Pakistan and Afghanistan, just as Russian can become a language of reconciliation between Russia and Ukraine," the Ambassador noted.

🇷🇺🇵🇰 The initiative also seeks to strengthen academic ties between Russian and Pakistani linguists. The new publication aims to address the shortage of modern Pashto grammar teaching materials and encourage greater interest in studying the language at Russian universities. Copies of the textbook will also be provided to Russian universities where Pashto is taught.

The textbook was published with the support of the Embassy of Russia in Pakistan.
