Housing affordability is the number one challenge facing families in California’s 19th Congressional District. I’m proud to help introduce the bipartisan Homeownership Opportunity Act to give families more flexibility to cover down payments and closing costs and help more people eam of homeownership.

Deeply saddened by the passing of Dolores Huerta, co-founder of the United Farm Workers and a pioneer in the fight for labor and civil rights, women’s rights, and equality.
Her lifetime of advocacy and action helped generations of farmworkers secure better wages, safer working on the job. Dolores inspired the fight for many farmworkers to achieve the American Dream and give their children a better life. Her legacy is felt well beyond our local agricultural communities on the central coast of California and throughout our country.
My heart is with her family, friends, and all those who carry forward her pursuit of giving farmworkers fairness and our children a brighter future.

Proud to put $65,000 back in my constituent’s pockets from the IRS. One of the best parts of my job is returning my constituents’ hard-earned money they are owed from the federal government. When a community member reached out for help because he was missing his 2025 IRS refund, gency within just a couple of weeks.

After dismantling USAID, this Administration is directing global health assistance to foreign governments without adequate transparency or oversight. That’s why I led a letter to Secretary Rubio requesting public access to these agreements and clear safeguards to protect taxpayer American leadership in global health continues to save lives and strengthen our partnerships around the world.

Our public lands are facing a maintenance crisis, with unusable trails, unsafe bridges, and unprecedented wildfire risk. That’s why I joined my colleagues in demanding answers from the U.S. Forest Service about how layoffs, hiring restrictions, and budget cuts are affecting its trails and protect nearby communities. I will continue working in Congress to keep our trails safe and accessible and protect our public lands in California’s 19th Congressional District.

Great to work with Lisa Holbert, Director at the Cabrillo College Children’s Center & Lab School, on highlighting my recently enacted SEED Act for early childhood educators. The new law will allow pre-K teachers to deduct up to $350 in out-of-pocket classroom expenses from their fedeing with the 2026 tax year. Proud to play my part in providing such a tax deduction and recognizing our teachers.

An envelope containing a suspicious white powder was delivered to my Santa Cruz district office and opened by staff this morning as part of her normal daily morning routine responding to constituents. Upon realizing that there was powder in the envelope, she immediately put the can, cleared fellow staff members out of the office, and called 911.
My priority is the safety and security of my staff and, thankfully, she and the other staff have been initially cleared by medical officials.
I’m grateful to local law enforcement and first responders for their swift response.
Threats, fearmongering, and violence against public servants have become far too common over the past decade and undermine our democracy.
But these attempts to intimidate us will not deter us from doing our job. Despite these difficult circumstances, we remain committed to our democracy by continuing our service to the people of California’s 19th Congressional District.

Great to join local early-childhood educators at Cabrillo College Children’s Center & Lab School to celebrate my bipartisan SEED Act being signed into law. Pre-K teachers often dip into their own pockets to purchase classroom supplies, yet until now, they were denied the same fedeable to K-12 teachers. My commonsense law closes that gap by expanding the $350 educator expense deduction to include early childhood educators.

Congress created the research tax credit to bolster innovation, not subsidize tech companies' construction of data centers in our communities. That’s why I’m leading a bipartisan coalition of my colleagues to demand answers from the IRS on whether companies, like Meta, actually reaks.

With Medicare open enrollment beginning October 15, seniors deserve coverage they paid into and care they can access. As our senior population continues to grow in CA-19, I’ll continue working to strengthen Medicare for patients and physicians so more seniors can find a local they need.

When disaster strikes, working families should not have to worry about whether they can afford to rebuild their homes. That’s why I support the Community Disaster Protection Act to help high-risk communities close coverage gaps and expand access to affordable insurance. I’ll gress to help our communities in CA-19 prepare for disasters and recover when they strike.
