Her presentation, in Donor-Matched Adolescent Bronchial Co-Cultures: Divergent Responses and Implications for Long-Term Respiratory Health,” will highlight a new human-relevant model built entirely from primary adolescent lung cells.
The study found that repeated exposures produced distinct biological responses that traditional single-exposure testing did not capture, reinforcing the importance of studying realistic patterns of use, interactions among lung cell types and differences among individual donors.

Researchers tested drinking water where young children learn, play, and grow. Here's what they found.
The study examined metals in drinking water samples collected from child care centers and homes across North Carolina. While none of the samples exceeded state or federal lead ers found an association between lead concentrations in child care kitchen water and lower inhibitory control, an important executive function skill that helps children focus, regulate impulses, and learn.
The findings add to a growing body of evidence that understanding and reducing environmental exposures can play an important role in supporting healthy child development.

40 years ago today, RTI’s defense research was making headlines.
On August 5, 1986, @newsobserver reported that RTI International and @NCState had been selected for semiconductor research connected to the Strategic Defense Initiative, better known as “Star Wars.”
The ed considerably since then. The connection between North Carolina research, innovation and national security has not.
Today, RTI continues to apply science and technology to challenges ranging from advanced materials and protective technologies to warfighter health and performance.
