@JohnPeterJerrim & @cbokhove - another PISA '25 quirk @peterejkemp and I came across this morning. The standardised gender item (ST004D01T) is completely missing in 14 countries.

Do you know how MALE is generated from sampling data?

After a bit of reading, I think the MALE item comes from the Student Tracking form, completed by the school, which links students to genders.

Are you a mathematics teacher in the UK?
Or do you work in a job that requires the regular use of mathematics?
An MA student I supervise is doing an interesting dissertation on stakeholders' views on the mathematical knowledge and skills that are of value in the curriculum.

Thank you @physicstp - it was fun to talk about the research @BenRogersEdu, @liamciniodwyer and I carried out with @IOPTeaching funding to look at the impact of stories on learning - and to get sidetracked by physics stories!
Effective StoryTelling in Physics is live! @RBrockPhysics shares his wisdom on how stories, when used judiciously, can both enrich learning and bring joy to teaching. #iteachphysics

It was great to work with @BenRogersEdu and @liamciniodwyer on this project funded by @IOPTeaching (thank you!). We looked at whether adding stories to physics explanation videos (in a quasi-experiment) impacted knowledge retention.
Do stories in science lessons help learning? @liamciniodwyer @RBrockPhysics and my new paper in the Journal of Research in Science Teaching dives into the impact of stories in science lessons. Surprising results? See the full paper here: onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/epdf/10.10…

We suggest a cautious approach to using stories and consider how the engagingness of material, and learner prior knowledge might impact the effect of stories. You can read the paper here: onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/te…
