YOU WIN SOME, YOU LOSE SOME – The aftermath of the elections in B.C.

I grew up in the Soviet Union, in its later years, so we already had elections. There was just one name on the ballot, but we had the civil liberty to show up on the designated day and put the ballot in the ears of the Soviet Union, you normally wouldn't even get in trouble if you chose not to show up on the day and not cast the ballot; it was allowed.

I'm still trying to understand why Eby campaigned so much to the Left

I guess they had the bad numbers from week 1 and figured their only chance was to unite the Left?

But going so far that you are proposing to make BC literally the jurisdiction with the highest tax rate (or second highest) in the world? Profit margin cap on groceries? This was nuts and was always gonna scare the centrists imo. It was like we were back in the NDP from the 90s

I still don't understand why they didn't do a serious campaign as the centrist serious option. Obviously it was difficult when the media had decided they loved Lorne but still, it seems like a better strategy for 4 weeks.

Really strange

It's really no wonder EVs are increasing in market share: they're incredibly efficient!

I see many taking this at face value and even asking for apologies or whatever

Stop believing hypothetical polls blindly. Same way we get insane results like "60% voted strategically" when we ask

Here, for KLF, yes it's only 25% would have voted for KLF BUT this is among ALL voters and you have 18% unsure, so that's 25/82=30%

After, among BC cons voters, it's 51% but you have hilarious results like 29% of Green voters would have supported KLF and even 12% of NDP

Look I'm not even arguing KLF would have done better. Not at all. But if you take this poll are face value, you are a moron
Our “Exit Poll” in British Columbia: Only 31% of #bcpoli voters say they would have cast a ballot for the BC Conservatives under John Rustad and just 25% say they would have done the same had Kerry-Lynne Findlay remained as leader.

We are literally, factually taxed less than under Gordon Campbell and this is still your number one issue?
% of #bcpoli voters who say each issue was “very important” when deciding:
Taxation – 47%
Public transportation projects – 29%
DRIPA – 27%
Automobile insurance – 26%
SOGI in schools – 25%

BC Conservatives. You won 70% of the seats and you are whining because a 26 year old Green MLA doesn’t like your party and is scared for the future. We all benefit from distinct voices. Prove her wrong. But stop acting like you are some persecuted group.

My guess is the BC NDP will not attract a lot of big names for its leadership because the loss was so terrible, many will think 2030 is unwinnable

I really want Elliott as minister for higher education

I know it's not as high profile as finance but she'd be a great fit:

-she works in this sector
-could test of her managerial talent to fix this mess
-can fix the insane wokeness in it

It's been an historically remarkable weekend as British Columbia elects its first conservative government since 2013.

Emily Lowan needs to resign. Today.

We can’t accept those remarks in a society. She clearly hates conservatives. At a bare minimum. It sure sounds like it goes even further than that.

She’s not a child. She’s responsible for what she says. She must resign.

Just one example but I'd like to point out that "removing SOGI" was reserved for the so-called abnormal populist Right for a long time

Seems important now that everybody seems to think we should only listen to 'normal' people

I cannot even imagine having such contempt for the people who get involved and give their time and money

Despicable comment from one of the worst elitists in this country
Dear Canadian Conservatives:

Ignore your party members.

Be exceptionally normal.

Win big.

You’re welcome.

You know I wouldn't mind the elites of this country at much if they delivered

But they don't. Ken was part of a government that we in power when our GDP per capita started declining relative to the US. And our justice system went insane. Etc

Castanet article written by Pavneet Singhs campaign manager calls opponents questioning charges about a 12 year old being raped, a questionable immigration timeline and LMIA fraud racism.

Yet these are Conservatives remember guys. Blame it all on racism.

Adjacent to this and obviously important to me: what will they do with the mess in the post secondary sector?
So let's try to predict the first year of this give

Education: some easy Ws like bringing back grades. It won't change much (the decline started under the BC Liberals and it's the same people). But the Ws will be nice. Sogi will be renamed. Fights with the unions.

Healthcare: no changes. Canadian keep saying this is their number onr priority but aren't willing to vote for chanee. Fights with the unions

Indigenous stuff: they'll do the virtue signaling stuff like repealing DRIPA but dripa was never the problem so it won't do shit. It'll slow down this insanity but not stop it.

Economy: probably the easiest. Can just start some projects etc. Hopefully not too many handouts to their friends in the construction industry or lawyers. Optimistic on this file overall

Deficit: will be huge and made worse with the tax cuts (I doubt we will fully get them). Seems accounting tricks will hide it at first (like the 5b discretionary stuff). Heavily dependent on the economy though.
