The Truth About Ron DeSantis
Ron DeSantis is the son of a nurse and a cable box installer. He went to and graduated from public school. His first job out of high school was as an electrician’s assistant. He worked his ass off to get to Yale University, then worked his ass off at Yale to get to Harvard Law.
He didn’t use his fancy law degree to go into private practice and get rich. He joined the Navy to serve as a JAG officer in Iraq. Later, when he got elected to the US House, he became a founding member of the Freedom Caucus. Those are the people fighting to limit government and stay true to the Constitution. You know, conservatives.
I’m sure you already know the rest. I’m not going to start listing off his accomplishments as governor because it would be far too much to read for a Twitter post. I just wanted to clear up any confusion about his ”elitism” and the idiotic obsession over whether he’s supported by “the Establishment.” Paul Ryan, Jeb Bush and Meghan McCain could get a picture of DeSantis tattooed on their foreheads and it would not affect my vote one iota. This is not a soap opera or TV drama. It’s a question of who is best suited to give my children their best shot at a decent country.
Right now, our country, both Republicans and Democrats, are stuck on stupid. We have a really good shot at changing that. If you disagree, that’s fine. That’s your right. I’ll just make a deal with you: go easy on lying about my preferred candidate and I’ll go easy on telling the truth about yours. Thanks for reading.

Best case scenario is 2 things happening simultaneously: gridlock govt while the GOP gets its crap together.
Worst case scenario:: everyone forced onto govt healthcare because Democrats let Trump put his name on whatever socialist bill they pass, Dem-dominated Congress driving our final fiscal nail in the coffin with the help of a president who never saw a spending bill he wouldn’t sign.
Let’s hope for the former.

Eh, who am I kidding. People will just fixate on the next politician. Trump was always just the symptom. Tribalism is the disease.

Filling out my ballot today, along with my wife, preparing to drop it off in person tomorrow. I’m voting for sane people who actually like our country; people who don’t put any politician or tribe above her.
The Democrat party is a nonstarter. The only way for a Democrat candidate to get my vote is to denounce their party, leave it and run as an independent or Republican.
Likewise, if a candidate claims to be Republican but runs on a populist platform to please the Establishment, I’ll write in a real American.
That’s me. You do you. It’s a hell of a mess we’re in as a party but the best I can do is support what I believe in and oppose what I don’t.

I understand and largely agree with his macro point regarding the nature of tariffs. He needs to say exactly what he means by ‘free and fair trade,’ though. Because in the real world, free trade is never fair trade with China. So what is his solution to their routinely unfair/lopsided practices? I ask that sincerely @RandPaul. ‘Free and fair trade’ is a platitude for politicians that rarely is explained in practical terms.
A tariff is a tax. China or Canada doesn’t pay it. Farmers, American manufacturers, and families at the checkout counter pay it.
I oppose blanket tariffs and support free, fair trade that benefits every American.
