@k_ovfefe2d@Pontifexs hunt. But I will posit that yes, he's read the Bible, likely cover to cover, and has chosen to wrap this particular sermon in the pages of the New Testament rather than the old. Redemption was and is a huge deal in the teachings of Jesus.
The "eye for an eye" analogies which permeate nearly all events in the Old Testament were largely abandoned by Jesus' followers, even when he was crucified. None of them lept up, formed a mob and attempted to destroy those responsible, with the certainty that God (the Father of Jesus) would protect them. Literally, according to the New Testament, none did.
The added comment regarding a supposed reaction by the Pope if an abortion clinic had been attacked and the perpetrators also facing execution, is a hypothetical and based more on emotional opinion rather than fact.
We honestly do not know which side of the fence he would topple, however since most anger toward his opinion regarding the execution of this particular terrorist is based on very strong emotion, it is understandable to imagine both arguments may not be compatible or addressed equally. That does NOT mean they wouldn't be.
At any rate, one of the reasons I dislike organized religion are moments such as this. Rationality takes a glance and quickly looks away, whilst the mob gathers steam using words from an older version of God's actions and determinations, whilst simultaneously dismissing those same practices the radical Islamists use today as archaic and uncivilized.
Basically, pick your poison. Just be mindful the one you choose doesn't take you, as well as your intended adversary.

@Pontifex once again, you’re taking the Gospel out of context. Brother, what are you doing? If you’re going to shepherd the sheep, give them the whole passage, not only the comforting parts.
In Matthew 22, the King graciously invites people to his Son’s wedding feast. Some reject the invitation; others mistreat his servants. Judgment follows, and the guest without a wedding garment is cast out.
This parable is about grace, but it’s also a warning. The King’s invitation must not be treated lightly. Preach the welcome, but preach the warning too. The sheep need the whole truth. What are you doing?

The wedding feast is ours, and the banquet hall is our churches and homes, the places where we live and where the King’s Son, Jesus Christ, continues to declare His love for us and await our “yes.”

As a British politician concerned for British safety, presumably against all forms of terrorism, including the rise of fascism (let's not pretend fascism is detrimental solely to the Jewish, much as it wasn't in WWII), should you not at least be aware of the American Jewish population being anti-Zionist and protesting publicly against Zionism (a form of acceptable peaceful protest, it must be stated, whereas in the UK it was banned on my last check)?
