Randomly started thinking about Kaido again, and I can't stress enough how perfect of an antagonist he was and outside of Blackbeard he is the greatest foil for Luffy we've seen in this entire story. So many refused to understand his character, but I definitely do.

My issue with HGSS level curve isnt that it makes the game hard or grindy. But that it handicaps certain Pokemon because they don't evolve or get decent moves until your basically done with the game.

How do some of you get all the way to Jasmine without your starter evolving? I'm fully evolved by the 4th or 5th Gym. Even when I was 8 playing Gen 2 this was the case.

The vast majority of RPGs are balanced around you being a certain level at any point in the game. Most of the time you will be slightly below or at the level of any major boss because difficulty ramps up as your progress. Play more games for the love of god.
Johto is forever tarnished because over the last 10 years the Pokemon community has been conditioned with Youtube challenge runs being 1 video and the dead of Lets Plays that you are supposed to be equal to the level of the Gym leader's ace.
The baby game in which you one shot anything if you use a STAB super effective move and they will burn you at the stake if you're 10 levels below the E4. In what other video games does this even apply to, what other boss fights do you have where your stats are supposed to equal that of the boss.

Pokemon is not balanced around being 10 levels below the opponent. Red isn't in the level 80s because of a smart difficulty choice. He's in the 80s because they want to portray him as the "best trainer." Without considering the game has not ramped up enough to justify the spike.

Comparing optional bosses that you can completely skip to the main ending of the Gen 2 games is certainly a choice. If you choose not to fight Red, you have an extremely underwhelming and easy conclusion, if you choose to fight Red, you have an extremely unbalanced level curve.
