10-31-1971- The Eagles were in the middle of a difficult season, as they continued trying to find consistency in the post-Norm Van Brocklin era.
The Eagles hosted the Denver Broncos at Veterans Stadium, winning a hard-fought, one-point thriller in front of 65,358 fans.
struck twice in the second quarter:
Ben Hawkins caught an 18-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Rick Arrington.
Bill Hobbs returned a blocked punt six yards for another touchdown, giving the Eagles a huge boost.
Denver answered with a touchdown run by Floyd Little, who finished with 123 rushing yards. The Broncos also added points to keep the game close.
Philadelphia's defense did enough to protect the narrow lead, and the Eagles escaped with a 17–16 victory.
Why it mattered: After opening the season with five consecutive losses, Philadelphia had now won back-to-back games, improving to 2–5.
It was an encouraging turnaround for a team that desperately needed some momentum
