ASGCT is an amazing organization, with fantastic staff and volunteer members. I’m going to try really hard not to break it in my year as president 😊
👏 Join us in congratulating Distinguished Professor Paula Cannon (@PaulaUSC), PhD, for her appointment as president of @ASGCTherapy, the organization dedicated to developing next-generation therapies that address the underlying causes of disease. keck.usc.edu/news/usc-scien…

A new study finds that people with #LongCOVID have distinct patterns of inflammation detectable in the blood, which could potentially be targeted with immune therapies. The findings confirm that LongCOVID leads to ongoing inflammation which can be detected in the blood. 1/

The @igisci @DanaherCorp Beacon for CRISPR Cures is not run by the naive - we are all realists and veterans of developing gene editing medicines in the real world.
We are confident in our ability to develop, and deliver for all to use, a scalable, portable, affordable approach to develop and provide gene editing medicines for neurologic diseases treatable by repairing blood stem cells - such as the one this child is suffering from. #HealthJustice

Can we reprogram B cells to make custom antibodies that can block many strains of #HIV?

Through her work with @rid_hiv, @PaulaUSC found her answer: yes we can, at least in the lab. Now they have to see if this can also work in animal models.

Bottom line: antiscience aggression and disinformation was a leading cause of death in the United States 🇺🇸 in 2021 and 2022. Antiscience aggression kills more Americans than just about any other societal force.
