Goldenballs

Also if you're looking for books that BANG, WHOOSH, FIZZ and CRACKLE with plot lines that POP, characters that SPARKLE and twists that go BOOM 💥

then we've got you covered. 🎆

It's an annual tradition that every year on the 5th of November we put that guy Faulks on top of the Bonfire (of the Vanities).

And don't forget that if you're going to be stacking that guy Faulks on top of the Bonfire (of the Vanities) tonight, make sure you've not got a copy of The Hodgeheg or Mrs Tiggywinkle stuck between the pages. 🦔

There's a lady who's sure all that glitters is gold and she's buying a

So now we're in that funny bit between #Halloween and #BonfireNight. It's like a practice run for the weird bit between #Christmas and #NewYear.

But with much less cheese.

It's #Halloween and every year we like to carve a #Pumpkin from our collection of @PenguinBooks. 🎃

We're up to our elbows here in juicy plots and seedy characters. Luckily there's not much pulp fiction. 🎃

It's Friday and tomorrow is #Halloween so it's the perfect time to dust off our old #BookFace skills for a special #Halloween-themed #BookFaceFriday! 😈🎃👻📚

It's #NationalCatDay but we have NO cats

Although we DO have this magnificent Archive photograph of a giant #Orkney cat, taken in 1930 by Tom Kent.

This legend weighed 20lb or 9kg - around double the weight of an average cat!

After what seems like days and days of wet and windy weather, blue skies have returned and #BookyMcBookface is away across the Churchill Barriers to the beautiful islands of Burray and South Ronaldsay. 📚

If you've got kids and you've nothing organised for #Halloween yet then don't forget that we've got LOADS of kids dressing up clothes you can borrow for FREE at Orkney Library! 🎃🤖👽🧙‍♀️

Take whatever you need and return it whenever you're finished with it. ❤️

We have an announcement.

Due to the current windy weather, today's Mobile Library visit to Evie, Rendall and Firth has been postponed. 💨

We will now be operating this service THIS FRIDAY (30th October) at all the usual times.

Apologies for any inconvenience.

It's nearly the end of October, the clocks have gone back, and once again we are moving steadily into the darker months. 🌙

If you need a little more light in your life then don't forget that Orkney Library & Archive have a collection of loanable WINTERING WELL KITS! 💡
