Nyt olisi korkea aika herätä Suomessa ja Euroopassa siihen, mitä Trump ja Putin ovat mahdollisesti sopimassa meidän turvallisuudestamme.
Trumpin mukaan Ukrainan sodan päättämiseksi valmisteltava sopimus saattaa koskea koko Eurooppaa. Hänen mukaansa kyseessä olisi valtava sopimus, johon kaikki olisivat tyytyväisiä.
Trumpin neuvottelija Jared Kushner on samaan aikaan kertonut, että Brysselissä on keskusteltu Ukrainan turvatakuiden lisäksi Euroopan laajemmasta turvallisuusjärjestyksestä ja kaikkien osapuolten turvallisuushuolien huomioimisesta.
Mitä tämä käytännössä tarkoittaa? Ja ennen kaikkea, mitä Venäjän turvallisuusvaatimuksia Washington on valmis ottamaan huomioon?
Venäjä esitti joulukuussa 2021 vaatimukset, jotka olisivat käytännössä rajoittaneet Naton laajentumista, joukkojen sijoittamista ja sotilaallista toimintavapautta Itä-Euroopassa. Näistä vaatimuksista ei pidä unohtaa sanaakaan.
Suomen kannalta tämä on suoraan kansalliseen turvallisuuteemme liittyvä kysymys. Me emme voi hyväksyä mitään järjestelyä, jossa Venäjälle annettaisiin vaikutusvaltaa Naton joukkojen sijoitteluun tai liittokunnan toimintavapauteen Pohjois-Euroopassa.
Venäjälle saatetaan tarjota mahdollisuutta pitää valtaamiaan alueita, saada pakotteita puretuksi ja palauttaa taloussuhteensa Yhdysvaltoihin. Jos tähän yhdistettäisiin vielä myönnytyksiä Euroopan turvallisuusjärjestelyissä, Putin voisi katsoa saavuttaneensa sodalla huomattavasti enemmän kuin taistelukentällä.
Ukrainalla on tietenkin oikeus päättää itse rauhastaan. Ukrainan sodan lopettaminen ja Euroopan turvallisuuden vahvistaminen eivät silti automaattisesti ole sama asia.
En usko, että ensi viikon Abu Dhabin neuvotteluissa lyödään vielä lopullista sopimusta lukkoon. Siellä voidaan kuitenkin määritellä niitä ehtoja, joilla Venäjä suostuisi rauhaan ja joihin Yhdysvallat olisi valmis sitoutumaan.
Eurooppalaiset ovat osallistuneet Brysselin valmisteluihin, mikä on tärkeää. Pelkkä kuulluksi tuleminen ei kuitenkaan riitä, jos neuvottelujen lopputuloksella olisi vaikutuksia meidän puolustukseemme.
Suomen ja Euroopan on nyt tehtävä selväksi, ettei Ukrainan rauhasta voida maksaa hintaa, joka heikentää muiden Euroopan maiden turvallisuutta.
