My usual theory is that all kink is just The Desire to Be Desired, often Despite something. IE. Petplay, you want to be pathetic/needy/“a lot” and have someone unabashedly desire and love you still. Or you want to own someone and have them desire you so much they love it.
all kinks are one of three things. everything else is just semantics.
