LDC is hard, but hard is what makes it fun.The Bar Course is likely to take everything from you, but I guarantee you, it will quadruple whatever it will take from you. There is no hard and fast rule for passing LDC but try out any of these.

You cannot keep asking God to open doors for you while refusing to open the doors you can for others.
You are praying for career growth, yet you have the opportunity to help someone else grow, but you have never done so.
You are praying for a new job, yet you are in a position t one, but you have never done so.
You are praying for mentors, yet you have the capacity to mentor someone else, but you have never taken the initiative.
Sometimes, the answer to your prayer is in the opportunity God has already given you to become an answer to someone else’s prayer.

One of the most beautiful rewards of mentorship is watching your mentees grow to the point of writing books and sharing their own stories, lessons and wisdom with the world. It feels like mentorship coming full circle. Well done @IamTheSparrow .
And if you are a mentor who has watching your mentees do so might just be the gentle nudge you need to pick up the pen yourself.
Sometimes, those we mentor end up inspiring us in ways we never imagined. Thank you @RubiitoAbel1121

The Most Dangerous Words in Your Career: “That’s Not My Job.”
In our @JSConversations , @JanePBitek challenged the traditional understanding of the Company Secretary.
She spoke about a professional who must understand strategy, finance, risk management, operations, and human behaviour.
Someone who does more than record decisions. Someone who helps the board make better ones.
Then she recommended the book, Mindset by Dr Carol Dweck, where the author distinguished between a fixed mindset and a growth mindset.
A fixed mindset says,
“That is not my responsibility.”
“The board makes the decisions, my job is simply to record them.”
A growth mindset asks different questions like what else do I need to understand to advise this board effectively?
How can I communicate complex legal requirements in language that management understands?
How can I help the organisation move from simply complying with the rules to building a genuine culture of ethical conduct?
The difference is not merely in attitude. It is in the willingness to learn, stretch, and take responsibility for becoming more effective.
@JanePBitek made another important observation about artificial intelligence.
AI can help with minute-taking. It can save time and improve efficiency. But it cannot automatically replace the Secretary's judgment about what a board truly meant, the significance of a director's body language, or the concerns that were never explicitly expressed.
Technology can support the work. The professional must still bring discernment.
And that is where continuous learning becomes essential.
You are not limited to the role you were hired to perform. You can grow into the professional your organisation needs you to become.
For #Company #Secretaries, that means moving beyond compliance checklists towards strategic thinking, ethical leadership, and trusted advisory relationships.
For leaders, it means creating environments where people can ask questions, challenge assumptions, admit mistakes, and learn without fear.
Whether in the boardroom or the classroom, growth begins when we stop treating our current abilities as our permanent limits.

Knowing how to influence people is a real skill
The Most Powerful Person in the Boardroom May Not Be the Chairperson.
In our @JSConversations with @JanePBitek Jane Okot P’Bitek on The Art of Being an Effective Company Secretary, one insight stood out.
“The secretary’s power is the power of influence.”
Think about that for a perhaps four times a year. Decisions are made, strategies are approved, and policies are adopted.
But who ensures those decisions translate into action?
Who notices when the spirit of a decision is lost in its implementation?
Who has the courage to speak privately to a director when something doesn't feel right?
And who reminds the board of its responsibilities when everyone else seems comfortable looking the other way?
The Company Secretary.
Yet, too often, the role is reduced to taking minutes, preparing agendas, and ensuring documents are properly filed.
These things matter. But they are only part of the story.
An effective #Company #Secretary understands the business, anticipates governance risks, reads the room, and knows when to speak, how to speak, and whom to speak to.
As @JanePBitek explained, you don't build influence only inside the boardroom. You build it through relationships, trust, and conversations that happen long before the meeting begins.
You cannot influence people who do not trust you. And you cannot be a trusted adviser if you only show up when something needs to be signed.
This is why the modern Company Secretary must understand more than the law. They must understand strategy, finance, risk management, operations, and organisational culture.
Their authority may not come from giving orders. It comes from helping people make better decisions.
That is invisible power.
The board may set the direction, but governance requires someone who helps ensure that the direction is understood, decisions are followed through, and accountability is maintained.
That is the real work of a Company Secretary.

I hope that when you’re no longer here, when you have died, none of your friends will feel the need to post your private conversations just to prove to the world or the internet how close they were to you.
Knowing you was a privilege, not a license to expose you. The conversations you shared in confidence should remain private, even when you’re no longer around to protect them.
After all, true friendship means respecting someone’s privacy, even when they’re no longer here to ask you to.

Absolutely. Whenever we're taking minutes at a statutory meeting, the MD first looks for his name if properly rendered, then he turns to the secretary and asks, have you read it? The secretary will look at my senior... 😂
Any mistake, na secretariat's fault. 👌

“The Company Secretary is a jack of all trades and a master of all.”
A Company Secretary must understand the entire organisation, including its operations and strategy. This, among other things, helps in reviewing Board papers effectively.
By the time you send the papers to ntially saying: “I have read them, and I am satisfied.”
It is more than circulating papers. It is exercising judgment to ensure that the Board has the right information to make informed decisions.

“A secretary’s job is doable, and I’m alive to show for it. You can do it successfully and remain alive. We have a problem of integrity issues in Uganda, but the job is manageable.
As I read in one of the texts during my course, ‘If you want to make people happy, don’t come for ce cream.’
Dysfunctional boards are a challenge. There is what we call boardroom culture, which may differ from the wider organisational culture. However, what happens in the boardroom usually affects the entire organisation.
One of the first signs that something is wrong in a boardroom is a lack of trust among board members. When there is no trust, people become unwilling to be vulnerable.
Trust has an equation: credibility plus reliability plus intimacy, divided by self-orientation.
