There are lives that follow history, and there are lives that help define it.

Senator John McCain’s story is woven into the story of America.

A life shaped by duty, by courage, by a deep and enduring commitment to something greater than self.

He believed that e to mean division; that courage wasn’t just found on battlefields, but in standing up for what’s right even when it’s unpopular.

As America celebrates 250 years, we’re reminded that being American has never been about ease. It’s about effort, it’s about responsibility, it’s about choosing again and again to believe in the promise of this country. Senator John McCain believed in that promise.

He believed that we are strongest when we remain united in purpose - that democracy depends on participation, on character, on courage.

As Senator John McCain reminded us, our shared values define us more than our differences. That spirit – resilient, hopeful, enduring – is what carries us forward from one generation to a next. From the founding of a nation to its 250th year.

Senator McCain once said, “There is no right more fundamental to a free society than the free practice of religion.”

The McCain Institute upholds this statement as a key pillar of our mission for human rights and freedom. Earlier this year, we held a bipartisan expert panel in the U.S. Senate to discuss the McCain Institute report, “The State of Religious Freedom Worldwide: An Inside Look at the Axis of Upheaval’s Religious Persecution and How the U.S. Can Counteract It.”

McCain Institute Executive Director @EvelynNFarkas joined @amanpour to discuss the U.S.-Russian diesel deal, the Starshield disconnect, attacks on civilian infrastructure, and consequences that could come from a lack of intelligence sharing with Ukraine.
"Head-scratching... & disconcerting, to say the least." President Trump's decisions over Ukraine are alarming allies. Former Pentagon official @EvelynNFarkas says the diesel deal w/Russia is "giving Putin a gift... That is completely disconnected to trying to get a peace deal."
