Socrates: This body holding me reminds me of our own mortality. Embrace this moment. Remember, we are eternal. All this pain is an illusion.

A student once asked me, "What do analytic philosophers think about Heidegger?"
My answer: "That he was a Nazi."
(Student: "Ah.")

Simple question: are local trains trains that stop at local stops, or are local stops stops that express trains don't stop at?
The Journal of Philosophy tackled this vital issue in an April Fools' article by Myrtle Willoughby. It's the best philosophical satire ever written.

If you're an editor at an academic journal, why send any paper out for peer review anymore? Just have an AI do it. If you have some idiosyncratic preferences for what makes for a good paper, put those into the review prompt.
Want a human touch on the decision? YOU'RE THE EDITOR.

An AI will never recommend a bullshit rejection because you didn't cite it, or recommend acceptance because you did.

Not me. The other analytic philosophers.
@dwaldenwrites Humanists should be snobby about the fact that they are stewarding a tradition that stretches back thousands of years rather than doing busy work involving little technical puzzles. Instead they find dumb “research” niches to fill because STEM gave them an inferiority complex.

It's OK. Always good to be reminded that you're unimportant and no one cares about your bullshit.

Struggling to meet hot singles in your area? Have you considered singles in other possible worlds? Continuing the theme of brilliantly playful philosophy papers, here's @neilsinhababu's superb 2008 paper on getting a girlfriend through the power of modal realism.

One of the interesting things about living in China is that when I'm having dinner, you're all having breakfast.
This is to explain why I'm hammered right now. It's my father in laws birthday! We don't speak the same language but do drink the same shit.
Drunkposting, AMA.

At a talk last week by a political realist and framed my objection as "You're basically making the same mistake Rawls does" and he turned a very interesting color.

Philosophers: writing like this does not make your view more clear or your work more rigorous. It's just an off-putting display of math envy.

Apropos of @JeffMightBWrong piece today, I remember seeing Les Mis in the theater a long time back and being confused. Clearly we were supposed to be on the side of the revolutionaries, but why? What were they fighting for/against? The hit rate on French Revolutions is not high.
