Vladimir Guerrero Jr. opens up on his slump year: “They didn’t pay me to hit 40 every year. They paid me for what I already did.”

I want people to understand one thing. The money they gave me wasn’t for what I’m going to do. It was for what I already did. They didn’t pay me t 40 every year. They paid me for what I already accomplished. People are confused about that, but I think the same way they do. Like, sometimes I even say to myself: bro, they gave you all that money and you’re out here doing nothing. I try.

You know how it is with fans, when you’re good, they’re with you 100%. But when you smell like shit, like we like to say here, nobody supports you.

The ones who support you are the ones who stay with you. Those are my fans. My family.

What a year for Venezuela 🙌🏽
Jackson Chourio, William Contreras and Antonio Senzatela are World Series champions and World Baseball Classic champions in the same year

Alex Bregman and Luke Gregerson (2017) are the only other players to do so

The Tampa Bay Rays just embarrassed themselves and proved that their slap ass, small-ball style only works against a weaker American League. Against real competition, it runs straight into a brick wall, exactly as it did tonight.

Congratulations to the Milwaukee Brewers, the best team in baseball, by a long shot. #worldseries

This is what check swings will look like under MLB’s 45-degree rule.

(These were ruled check swings in Game 7 of the 1965 World Series.)

Please tell me this is sarcasm or pure engagement bait. Because if it’s not, I’m genuinely concerned.

What you’re looking at, is a proposal to call a check swing based on the bat reaching a 45-degree angle in the swing path.

Under the current standard (not spelled out in the rulebook, but how umpires are taught to judge it), the key is the front of the plate, the plane of the plate. If the bat breaks that plane, the batter is considered to have committed to the swing. In this case, the swing path clearly shows the bat crossing the front of the plate.

Hope this helps.
This is how replay review would’ve looked if MLB allowed you to challenge a check swing (which they 100% should).

As I said… it’s very clearly not a swing.

Not sure why Yandy Diaz’s swing is generating this much discourse. At first glance it looked like a checked swing, but the side angle clearly shows the bat path crossing the plane of the plate.

I’d be 100% on board with bringing these kinds of challenges to MLB. That said, the clip below doesn’t actually show a true representation of the plane of the plate.
This is how ACS would look, had it been in place

This is not exactly what AJ Preller said. This is the full translated quote:

“That group(Machado, Tatis) is the foundation of this team. Machado and Tatis are Padres. Everything changed when we signed Machado and when Tatis arrived in the league. Because of them we’ve had success and become a family and Machado and Tatis are a big part of that family.”
“Manny Machado and Fernando Tatis Jr. are Padres for life. We never think about trading them. They are the founders of the Padres.”

- AJ Preller
