King Louis IX of France ordered the public burning of the Talmud in 1242, resulting in the destruction of approximately 24 cartloads (roughly 10,000 to 12,000) of handwritten Jewish manuscripts.
Louis IX should of course had them translated and displayed as a warning to people for millennia!
