King ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz (the founder of Saudi Arabia) was among the strongest advocates for ruling by the Islāmic Sharīʾah, mentioning it as the greatest blessing alongside the shahādah itself.
Khomeini on the other hand rejected the Ṣaḥābah, the aḥādīth they narrated, and the 4 jurisprudence.

Islamism and Wahhabism have radically different understandings of tawhid and shirk in the modern era.
For Sunni and Shii Islamists (e.g., Maududi, Qutb, Khomeini) the modern era is understood as atheistic, secular, and materialistic.
Consequently, the primary form of shirk is not people worshipping pagan gods, or trees and rocks, or jinns, or angels, or the dead.
Rather it is people following the laws of human beings rather than the laws of Allah (i.e., shirk in legislation and hakimiyya).
All Islamists are deeply concerned with eliminating shirk in favor of tawhid by establishing societies and governments which obey the laws of Allah (i.s., the Sharia).
Wahhabism (or at least the Wahhabism of the third Saudi state) has a radically different view.
Such Wahhabism claims that the primary form of shirk in our era is people worshipping pagan gods, trees and rocks, jinns, angels, and the dead.
Hence, Muslims should focus all their attention on giving Muslims lessons on aqida and rituals to ensure that they do not worship a tree or dead person.
Meanwhile, from the Wahhabi perspective, shirk in legislation is of much lesser importance, and should ultimately be left to the ruler to address as he wants without Muslims having the right to criticize him if he decides to secularize his country and abandon the Sharia.
The US has promoted this type of Wahhabism as a way of destroying Islamist movements, eliminating Sharia, and spreading secularism.

قبل سنوات كان لباس المرأة أكثر ستراً واحتشاماً وكان النقاب هو الأصل في كثير من الأسر
واليوم هناك تراجع مخيف ومقلق
وتنازلات متتابعة في لباس المرأة وحجابها
حتى في بعض الأسر التي عُرفت بالمحافظة والالتزام!
وهناك حرب إعلامية شرسة وعنيفة من خلال المسلسلات ووسائل التواصل لتطبيع التبرج والتعري وتهوين شأن الحجاب في نفوس الفتيات
الخطير في الأمر والشيء الذي قد يغيب عن البعض
أن التنازلات تبدأ صغيرة ثم تتسع حتى يصبح ما كان مستنكراً مستقبحاً بالأمس أمراً مألوفاً طبيعياً اليوم!
اتقوا الله في بناتكم وانتبهوا لهن
واغرسوا في قلوبهن تعظيم أحكام الله
والاعتزاز بالستر والعفاف ولا تتركوا وسائل الإعلام
