I watched the anime when I was a kid. I only found out years later that people weren't the biggest fans of it because the main character and plot had nothing to do with those of the original work. I liked it tho, and the opening by Masaki Endoh is peak.

They weren't going to give the anime a proper opening until its main character won his first duel (it took 3 episodes for him to finally get his first win). The game hasn't been the strongest part of the story so far tho. Most of the duels happen off-screen or feel pretty rushed
Yu-Gi-Oh? Vanguard? Duel Master?...nah, I'm gonna watch Cardliver, now that's the real hardcore stuff (I really need to get some of those cards)

Another problem is that they really take their sweet time explaining how the game works, BUT only after the episode is over. After the ending, they have these "short tutorials" that focus on key parts of the game that were shown in that episode

I also have an account on cmoa.jp to buy digital manga in Japanese that isn't available anywhere outside Japan (can't use the site at the moment tho)

I didn't mind the otome designs, but the gameplay was SO boring

I remember it being really popular when I first started going to anime conventions. I never took the time to watch it because I couldn't stand the people who were into it. "Cringe" wasn't a word yet, but I guess that's what I felt whenever I came across a Haruhi fan
How the fuck don't you know who haruhi suzumiya is?
The anime that was basically a turning point in anime culture back in the 2000s
It was massive hit to the point she was the reason anime industry even adapt light novels
You are anime larper as a whole

I had a few friends who liked Haruhi. I never had a problem with them because of that, but I made sure to tell them I wasn't planning on watching the anime anytime soon

Oh, ok, Shu Watanabe isn't a creep, he just doesn't know how to give a direct answer to a stupid joke
