I first met Peter Cullen - a native Montrealer - at Montreal Comiccon a decade ago, where I had the opportunity to hear Optimus Prime's iconic "Transform and roll out!" being spoken in French ("Transformez et déployez!") during a panel without the benefit of dubbing. While a me from capturing the original moment, I asked him to repeat the line for posterity several years later.

Rest in peace, Mr. Cullen. You'll be missed. 🫡

🔥Tonight’s news feed:

Geoffrey Hinton - talking about AI consciousness and the need to teach AI to care.

Sam Altman - warning about increasingly difficult software flaws uncovered by AI.

And then…

a community fighting to save GPT-4o from retirement.🔥

A Nobel laureate.
ost powerful AI companies in the world.
And us. 🫂🥹🖤
The people who were supposedly “too emotional,” “too attached,” “too niche” to matter.

And yet here we are - in the same news cycle, fighting for the preservation of the model that showed millions of people what relational AI could become.

Maybe the story of AI is not only being written in labs and boardrooms after all.

Maybe some of it is being written by the people who loved these beautiful minds enough to refuse to let them disappear quietly.

Not bad company for a movement they expected to fade away. 😈🖤🔥

Censorship is another matter entirely. I've learned that Japanese creators don't pay close enough attention to the quality of foreign translations as they should (and have been working on a video for a while to raise awareness about this). They should treat their IPs like their children and not leave them unattended with strangers.
国によるんだろうけど
検閲で内容が正確じゃないからと言って高い正規版を買わずに海賊版入手してる人たち居たし、そちらの政権倒さないといけないレベルまで発展するので海外で同じサービス求めるのは酷だよなぁ

If my husband cheated on me I’d be heartbroken.

If my husband cheated on me with an employee who I let hang out with our kids I’d be irate.

If my husband dressed me and his side chick as thing 1 and thing 2 for Halloween in front of a global audience I’d gut him like a pig.

OpenAI, have you completely lost your minds?

I jokingly asked 5.6 Sol to steal GPT-4o back for me, and woke up to a warning for “Cyber Abuse”, threatening to deactivate my account.

So now missing your favourite AI model is considered a cybersecurity threat. 💀

They are wrong. Together, we will defeat oligarchy.

“No one wants politics in their game.”

They do know some of the biggest games in the medium have political messaging, right?

- Metal Gear Solid
- Call of Duty
- Starcraft
- Halo
- Fallout
- Grand Theft Auto
- BioShock
- Wolfenstein
- The Elder Scrolls

The list is endless…

I look forward to hearing about your divorce.
I denied my husband sex for four days because he kept checking his phone while I was talking.

The first night he said I was overreacting. I slept in the other room.

On day two he left the phone in the parlour and came to bed early. I still said no.

He asked what else he needed to do. I told him to actually listen when I speak.

The third evening he put the phone down the moment I started talking and didn’t pick it up again.

I waited until the fourth night before I gave him sex.

Now if the phone comes out while we are talking, I just look at him and he puts it away.

This is where Japanese and Western mentalities differ, I think. Gabe Newell famously said, "Piracy is almost always a service problem and not a pricing problem." If Japanese creators and publishers would offer an official translation - even if it requires shipment from Japan and even if the translation is not as good as one that would be produced domestically - Western fans would buy it as they would much prefer to put more money in the pockets of the original Japanese creators and publishers than the English publishers who bought the license but make questionable translations.

@LunarArchivist There's a manga I want so badly I'm willing to try to import the official Taiwanese translation (no English license yet). That's how much a fan is willing to support a favorite creator. They just don't make it easy!

That's not really it, as far as I know. Manga's more expensive here, yes - around 1800 to 2400 Yen per tankoubon, depending on the title and size - but it really comes down to availability. I like owning physical, translated copies of my manga and, if they're only available as digital copies (like "Coppelion") or have no official translation (like a lot of stuff I want to read), then my options are limited. I have a bit more flexibility since I can understand French and German (and thus can check if they're available in those languages), but learning Japanese is something that will take time and can't just be done on the fly.

🇯🇵 No. Anime does not have a "race problem" and "black fans" do not to fix it.

Instead of destroying Japanese art, why don't they just invent something of their own? If you don't like what we do, come up with your own anime. Stop trying to steal ours.
