They race-swapped Mary Saotome, a light skinned asian blonde woman, into Mary Davis, a black woman, in their Kakeguri (Bet) live-action adaptation.

They also turned Ryota Suzui into Ryan Adebayo, race-swapping an Asian man into a rest of the asian cast, with the exception of Yumeko, was race-swapped to white caucasians. Yumeko was race-swapped to a Filipina... essentially with only background Japanese actors in the live-action adaptation of the Japanese anime.

Japan basically only exists as a 'side piece' for an anime that canonically took place in an "extreme version" of Japan.

They just keep doing the meme, and I don't think they will ever stop. Season 2 of the live-action adaptation is expected to land next year, summer 2027.
