So @draginol thanks to Clairvoyance and ChatGPT I now have a computer vision system that works! Eventually this will go to a HUD via an ESP32 circular display and a transparent, text based OLED. :D this is running on a battery pack and outputting its IP address and video to the r!

It was really nice all the responses I got on my proof of life tweet last week. It’s just nice to know people still care about what’s going on with me & things. It’s been a rough year but I’m looking forward to not only getting better but getting back to working on things I love.

A heartbreaking day. Richard was a stellar talent who joined the game industry in his 40's when Apogee hired him to join the Duke 3D team. He was a relentless hard worker, a fun teammate, and an overall great human.
His levels in Duke Nukem 3D and Sin will live on forever. And Richard created one of the best easter eggs in gaming history: "You're not supposed to be here! -- Levelord"
RIP

We are deeply saddened by the passing of Richard “Levelord” Gray.
From his legendary work on Duke Nukem 3D to the countless players and developers he inspired, Richard leaves behind a lasting legacy.
Rest in peace, Levelord.

As a game developer of 30+ years who does programming, art, writing, etc. I applaud this.
Making games should not have gatekeepers. Great games come from the imagination.
I was lucky to begin my career when the art requirements involved Deluxe Paint and simple sprite work and the games were simple.
My first several games were sold at Walmart, CompUSA, EB, GameStop, etc. And I was able to make these games largely on my own. The barrier to making a great game that was commercially viable was within reach of a poor, college kid working 3 jobs.
I competed on my ability to work hard, think creatively and listen to my customers.
Over the years, the barrier to entry got higher and higher. And so games became a stew of safe pap.
It would be an absolute creative tragedy if the next-generation of potential game developers were harassed out of having a chance because they are expected to go out and spend thousands on specialists and tools.
Gamers can tell the difference between quality and "AI slop" and reward/punish accordingly. But these tools in the right hands could usher in a renaissance of creativity and innovation that we haven't seen in a long time.

Starting an AI Games Festival. Consists of every game made in 2027 because everyone uses Claude or Codex now.
If during this festival we discover a game uses human generated content we will have no issue with that. Literally all of steam okay.

Baen Books Establishes New Writing Award Named in Honor of David A. Drake
Riverdale, New York, July 2026—Baen Books is pleased to announce its newest short story award, the David A. Drake Memorial Award.
As with the two current writing awards sponsored by Baen—the Jim Baen Baen Fantasy Adventure Award—the "Drake" will seek to find new writing talent and will reward winners with professional publication contracts for their stories as well as a lovely trophy. In the spirit of military science fiction and fantasy written by David Drake, especially the Hammers Slammers and RCN/Lieutenant Leary series, the contest will seek engaging stories with military themes.
David A. Drake (24 September 1945–10 December 2023) was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War, a lawyer, and a pioneer in the field of military science fiction and fantasy. His work often focused on the lives of ordinary soldiers, and featured a high degree of realism with respect to military life and battlefield conditions.
Baen will be looking for works of great science fiction or fantasy with strong military themes central to the characters and plot, not mere window dressing. The contest is open to all forms of science fiction and fantasy. Authors do not have to be veterans or active military members to participate, but veterans and those in the military are certainly encouraged to submit; we expect their experience and knowledge will undoubtedly lend their stories a certain verisimilitude. Baen will be looking, in sum, for the kinds of stories David Drake and Jim Baen would have loved to read.
Submissions of original, unpublished short stories of up to 8,000 words will be accepted from 24 September 2026 until 10 December 2026. As with Baen’s other two awards, submissions will be judged blindly by a panel of Baen Books editors and a widely published military science fiction author. Details of the submission process will be released at a later date.
Baen Books plans to announce the finalists of the inaugural award in February 2027, and present the award in June at Baen Books’ Traveling Roadshow at the LibertyCon science fiction and fantasy convention in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
Baen Books is an independent publisher of fantasy and science fiction, in business for over 40 years. They are known for publishing the works of New York Times best-selling authors David Weber, S.M. Stirling, Jerry Pournelle, Larry Niven, Lois McMaster Bujold, Elizabeth Moon, Mercedes Lackey, John Ringo, and many others. Baen is distributed by Simon & Schuster.

So @OpenAI I am having issues changing my email address in the ChatGPT app. What can I do? It keeps reporting that something is wrong and won’t send the verification email. If anyone else has had this, let me know!

I’ve been working w/a great artist by the name I’d @PvpSwaag & I definitely recommend them. Their output is good, fairly quick, and met my requirements! Pricing isn’t bad either, standard artist commissioning. I’ll post some examples later but check them out here and on Discord.

In 1988, when I was 5 years old, my family brought home a Tandy 1000HX.
That computer changed my life.
It led me into gaming, programming, system administration, amateur radio, digital preservation, and a lifetime of curiosity.
Yesterday, nearly 40 years later, I booted a Starflight on real hardware while sharing it online.
If you worked on the Tandy 1000 line, thank you.
You didn’t just build a computer.
You built the launch platform for who I became.

@craig1black @lazygamereviews could you boost this for any Tandy engineers you might know? I’d love to talk with one!
