Here is video of 1st lecture at College de France on Biological computation 😊. I defend the necessity to access Algorithmic & Computational levels of analysis in cell & dev. biol. proposed by David Marr in neuroscience. Logic & Function matter 🤩.

100 years old. Still the sharpest mind in the room.
Jean-Pierre Serre, youngest Fields Medalist in history (age 27), first Abel Prize winner, and the “Mozart of mathematics,” turned 100 on September 15 and is still lecturing, still writing on the blackboard, still shaping the the greatest living mathematician. The rest of us are just trying to keep up.

If you want to know whether a system is being driven or at equilibrium, you need its probability current.
Getting this from actual dynamical trajectory data has been the hard part.
To help solve this I've been developing a
Delaunay-Voronoi Fokker-Planck (DVFP) instrument.
irregular, time-ordered phase-space observations into an empirical Fokker-Planck description.
The distinction is simple:
Geometry tells us what is nearby. Time tells us what happens next, and these are handled properly in this construction.
From here we obtain density, drift, diffusion, and probability current, which is what detailed balance and entropy production are built from.
Paper and DOI: doi.org/10.5281/zenodo…
Animation: As the underlying dynamics evolve, the DVFP instrument adapts its local weighting while preserving the temporal ordering of the observations.

A very thoughtful lecture, unsurprisingly, by @pgodfreysmith He’s a pretty good neuroscientist for a philosopher :-)

I've just started my 2nd lab at RIKEN BDR in Kobe, Japan!
This small, focused group will compare and manipulate species-specific time and shape, in collaboration with our Dresden lab.

It was wonderful to host Mukund Thattai from @NCBS_bangalore to give a seminar @centuri_ls. Thank you for entertaining us on how information is encoded at the cell surface. 🙏🏼
