You drink 1 to 2 liter bottles of water every day.
You inhale 5,500 2 liter bottles air every day.
Filled with viruses, bacteria, fungi, PM 1, PM 2.5, PFA's, - all filtered breath by breath by your lungs.
We filter our water - like you can filter/ clean your air.

The sadness is not enough to extend to requiring N95s for HCWs for Ebola.
So, yeah, you can miss me with the thoughts and prayers.
So, yeah, you can miss me with the thoughts and prayers.

Measles is sexy and crappy during pregnancy.
COVID is boring and evergreen - but slightly less crappy during pregnancy.
So...the Washington Post wrote a single "it's all a big mystery" pregnancy article in 2022.

NEW: Federal health scientists are trying to alert doctors to risks of measles during pregnancy as U.S. cases surge, but how quickly that info will reach clinicians — and where it will be published — remains uncertain amid internal conflict. My story. 1/5

CDC doom and gloom epidemic map shows the north is worsening for Covid. Waiting to see what the wastewater data shows, but if it follows, it will be bad news. To even see the epidemic status map like this pre-Halloween and all the other holidays is very unusual.

Hi Dr. Dean. I wear an FFP2 mask in all public indoor spaces. I use NAAT testing to test guests to my home. This takes about 30 minutes then, if -ve, guests umask. To the best of my knowledge, I have never had Covid-19. In fact, I have not had so much as a cold since early 2019.
Do you guys wear N95 masks in all public spaces?
Do you let people into your homes without masks?

The public discourse around the efficacy of masks is insane. When transmission rates are low, “masks don’t work”, and when rates are high, “NHS hospital trusts south of the Tyne now require staff to wear masks”.
Masks work. Period.

For CONTACT TRACING to be effective against the Ebola outbreak, AFRICA CDC currently needs 800K ppl on their contact list
They only have 173K
80% of new cases come from the community, outside of known contacts
This is waay past the ability to use contact tracing as the primary mitigation measure
They need a well-funded COMMUNITY response
Recruit, train, protect, supply AND PAY locals to educate & monitor the communities
Pls 🙏

We already know what an uncontrolled Ebola outbreak costs. In West Africa in 2014–2016, around 5 million children were kept out of school, around 23,000 children lost their parents, and nearly $3 billion of GDP was lost.
I shared these numbers with Africa’s health ministers so price again. The data is hard to hear, but it is also our best chance to change course.

Even good MDs who use respirators and get annual mask fit testing can misunderstand how the fit testing machines work.
This popular ER doc, who's social media content I like, accidentally passed along a misunderstanding of how PortaCounts test mask fit, something they probably ldn't be right if they thought about it a bit because N95s filter particles, including viruses, not gasses.
Here's what I replied:
"The PortaCount mask fit testing machines do use isopropyl alcohol vapor. It is used inside the machine to condense onto submicron aerosol particles in the air to fatten them up large enough for a laser and photo detector to see and count them.
The PortaCount uses two sampling hoses. One samples ambient air from outside the mask. The other from inside the mask. The machine compares the concentration of submicron particles outside the mask to inside the mask which gives a fit factor.
If, as an example, the concentration of particles outside the mask is 1000 per cm2, and 10 per cm2 inside the mask that would be a passing fit factor of 100, representing a face seal leak of 1% or less.
tsi.com/getmedia/7b3b8…
To increase the particle count in the room so there is a good sample size for the machine sometimes the fit testers will run saline solution through jet or ultrasonic nebulizer. The water evaporates from the nebulized water particles, leaving aerosolized salt particles hanging in the air. The same can work with tap water because of solids in the tap water, but with proper saline solution you know the only solids you are putting in the air are NaCl.
Alcohol vapor is a gas, which means it passes right through particulate-only filters like N95s. There are some mask fit testing methods that test mask seal using gases, but they can only be used on masks that filter gases, such as elastomeric masks fitted with VOC filtering cartridges. One method tests to see if you can smell banana oil through the mask - it can't pass through the VOC filters so if you can smell it that means you must have a face seal or valve leak. But the PortaCount particle count machine testing method is a more accurate test."
The important thing, though, is that the Dr. was getting their annual mask fit test and found an N95 that works well for them and passed the fit test.
Mask fit testing is really useful for helping you find your Goldilocks mask that gives you the best protection, and it should be made more widely available to the general public.

Aerosol particles are typically liquid droplets, solid particles, or a combination of both. Along with this, scientists are finding that many often exist in a different form entirely: glassy/viscous particles.
In my latest explainer video I introduce discuss aerosol viscosity.

This is our county-level RSV map. It's striking that there is elevated COVlD, influenza A, and RSV activity in TX, SC, & southern Florida.
It would seem wise to wear a well-fitting N95 and get boosted against COVlD and flu (and RSV if eligible).

@LazarusLong13 @CAPublicHealth That why I order lavender Breathe-Teq masks most of the time. It is among my favorite colors, often matches well with my wardrobe, and I seem to get less pushback when I wear lavender than black or gray. BreatheTeq doesn't make white, which seems to attract the most pushback.

✔ COVID-19: similar or lower peak than last year
✔ Flu: moderate season for all ages
✔ RSV: expected to track close to last year’s levels

Being kinda chic is subjective, but COVID-19 doesn't care.
- it's kinda chic to keep up with your vaccines
- it's kinda chic to wear a mask in crowded indoor public places
- it's kinda chic to cover your cough or sneeze
