The amateur baseball industry is riddled with those looking to make a quick buck and glorify themselves...

Things to look out for...
- Naming after themself
- Their social media feed is all pics/vids of themself
- They position themselves as the reason your child will have success
- It looks like they are the star of the show

The valuable coaches/advisors in this industry understand it isn't about themselves...

The educated players/parents know the same thing

Choose Wisely and make your child the star of this process...

Too many players are trying to win the wrong game

More showcases. More tournaments. More eyes.

But if your ability isn’t ready for the level you’re chasing, a bigger spotlight just makes the gap easier to see

Exposure gives coaches a chance to evaluate you. Development gives them a reason to want you

Win the development game first

Everyone wants a better future. Too many people keep giving away today

A good life is a lot of good days stacked up

You don’t build a house by staring at the finished plans. You lay the next brick

Take care of your body. Do work that matters. Be present with the people around you

Where you end up is a long series of daily decisions.
Stop losing the small moments

If everyone is doing the same workout, someone is getting cheated

Two athletes can have the same goal and need very different work to get there. You wouldn’t give the same directions to two people starting in different places

Training should work the same way. Understand where the athlete is, identify what needs to improve, and build the plan from there

That doesn’t mean every exercise has to be different. It means there should be a reason behind what each athlete is doing

Wisdom doesn’t come from experience. It comes from the reflection of experience

But reflection requires an open mind. If you’re too busy defending what you did, you’ll never learn what you should have done

Too many people want to be right instead of finding the right answer

You can protect your ego or challenge your thinking

Don’t confuse the two

Some coaches think they can design a better breaking ball than the pitcher can discover.

Technology gives us the data to guide development, but the athlete still has to discover how their body produces the movement.

It’s like giving someone a map. You can show them the destination, but they still have to navigate the road.

The best breaking balls are often discovered, not prescribed.

Use tech to guide exploration, not eliminate it.

Most people have good business ideas

Few have the discipline to turn those ideas into action. Even fewer turn that action into success

It’s like baseball. Everyone can take a swing. Few get a hit. Almost nobody builds a career.

Ideas are common. Execution is rare. Sustained success is extraordinary.

Stop celebrating the idea. Build something that lasts

Mindset rules this process

Read the #kpicrew 's newest blog on how having the long term mindset wins the race of development and recruiting (not hiring a 2nd rate recruiting advisor)

Too many athletes & families treat development like a choice between training, playing, & recruiting

It's not a zero-sum game. All three have value when used at the right time

You don't build a house by installing the roof first

The best development systems understand what matters most at each milestone.

It's not about doing everything. It's about doing the right things at the right time

Too many athletes & families get burned by bad recruiting advisors and travel coaches

They make promises, fail to deliver, apologize, then move on

It's like a financial advisor losing your life savings & saying, "My bad"

An apology doesn't erase the damage

The people giving advice rarely pay the price for being wrong. The athletes do

Choose your advisors accordingly & check their previous job's track record

Too many leaders are disconnected from the people they lead

Great leaders are thermometers. They constantly read the temperature of their organization

Most athletes don’t have too few goals

They have too many

Trying to improve 10 things at once is like trying to start 10 fires with one match

Development requires enough focus to actually create change

Identify what matters most. Attack it. Then move to the next thing

Some people will love your business. Others will hate it

Who’s right?

Probably neither — unless they’re the people you built it for

Know your audience. Listen relentlessly to them. Drown out the rest.

Not all criticism deserves a vote
