Following our call for applications for the #CleantechInnovation2026Competition, we’re excited to spotlight the shortlisted innovators who participated in a two-day regional bootcamp last week.
Hosted by @KenyaCIC in collaboration with the @SwissEmbassyKE, @sicpa and ootcamp equipped these early-stage cleantech founders with practical skills in financial modelling, unit economics, pitch deck development, and ESG impact assessment to strengthen their investment readiness.
Reflecting on the bootcamp, David Mbau, KCIC’s Cleantech Programme Lead, highlighted the potential of climate-focused businesses in Africa: “The biggest market opportunities in Africa sit at the intersection of climate resilience and everyday commerce; from the food we eat to the waste we manage. By prioritizing investor readiness, we are helping cleantech founders move closer to bankability and build self-sustaining, impactful and profitable businesses.”
A big thank you to our partners as well as our expert facilitators, for supporting these innovators on their journey towards building bankable climate solutions. Next up, the innovators will take to the stage for the Regional Pitching Semi-Finals this Thursday! We look forward to seeing them pitch their solutions and take the next step in the competition.

Power bills of up to KSh 500,000 a month, plus blackouts that spoiled milk and damaged equipment, made running Mogotio Dairy Cooperative costly. Today, the entire plant runs on solar.
Through the #DREEMProgramme, implemented by @KenyaCIC with support from the @MottFoundation, its value addition and milk processing. For the 1,500 farmers who supply it, this opens the way to higher incomes.
Hear from the team behind the cooperative about what this change means.

Growing up, Ian Owuor would watch garbage pile up in his estate whenever the county failed to collect it on time. That experience is what drove him to start managing waste.
Today, he’s the founder of Eastlands Waste Management, a business that collects, segregates and sorts and adds value to it. Out of every tonne they collect, 800kg is recovered as plastics, aluminium, paper, metal and cotton, and part of it is turned into animal feed. Only about 200kg goes to the landfill. Every day, they employ around 50 people from the community to do the work.
Through the #SWIFTprogramme, KCIC financed their new truck and supported them with PPEs, bookkeeping and accounting, and other equipment.
Ian’s dream is a Kenya where none of our waste ends up in a landfill, and he’s working toward it one tonne at a time.

Africa’s challenges have solutions within the continent. To act on them, we need to build capacity here and find the resources here too.
Jeremy Beggi of @inkomokoKenya makes the case for moving from aid reliance to self-reliance.He explains why people affected by displacement f financial inclusion entirely, and why Inkomoko speaks of displacement-affected communities rather than refugees, since people are uprooted by conflict, climate and economic hardship alike. He also shares a dinner-table analogy about accountability that every grantee should hear.
He closes with a message for anyone with an idea: believe in your potential, and don’t be afraid to ask for what you need.

What does circularity look like when it is engineered for Kenya’s realities?
Nzambi Matee, founder of Gjenge Makers, turns plastic waste into paving blocks using machines her team built themselves.
In this episode, she brings her energy and candour to a conversation about what ions that work for Kenya.
She takes us behind that journey: the nine months of trial and error it took to make her first brick, why the high cost of capital keeps so many African businesses from scaling, the infrastructure and skills gaps holding back the circular economy, and why Africa needs to define circularity on its own terms.

As a mother in rural eastern Kenya, @poshgero experienced firsthand how hard it was to get vaccines and other heat-sensitive medicines when she needed them. That experience became the starting point for a much bigger question: how do you build a cold-chain solution that actually of African communities?
In this episode of @SSAfricaPod , Tobias Belle, talks to Norah, co-founder and CEO of @AccessDrop, about the journey from identifying a real problem to building #VacciBox, a portable, solar-powered cold-chain solution that gives rural clinics cold storage where there is none and keeps vaccines and other heat-sensitive medicines within the required temperature range on the road.
