This utterly bleak line from the Resolution Foundation on living standards in their overnight Budget analysis.
"Between now (2026-27) and the end of the Parliament (2028-29), typical incomes are forecast to fall in total by £1,050 (3 per cent)."
In other words: On average we'll be getting poorer in the run-up to the next election.

The judges very kindly praised my investigations into the Royal family’s finances, the Epstein files and fraud on Meta platforms
Congrats to all the winners: tinyurl.com/2s4ykdxt

We cannot let these attacks wipe out Ukraine's educational resources. That is why The Sunday Times is incredibly proud to partner with @Book_Aid for the our Get Ukraine Reading appeal.
They are working on the ground to get brand-new books back into the hands of students and restock the libraries whose shelves were destroyed.
Every £2 donated sends another brand-new book to a Ukrainian child or library.
Please consider supporting the appeal and sharing this thread to help us rebuild what has been lost:

Jane Coates travelled 4,000 miles last week to try to get the investigation into the killing of her daughter, Lucy Harrison, reopened.
Lucy was shot by her father, Kris, who was never arrested.
I spent the week with Jane - here’s what happened 👇

Reform has now gone public with the second element of the story The Sunday Times approached about on Friday.
Christopher Harborne has also given £36 million to the party, the same amount as Ben Delo.
That’s a remarkable **£72 million** combined donation - unprecedented in scale in modern British democracy.

A fundamental part of political reporting - approaching for comment before publishing - just totally breaks down if this is what happens.
Bad for both sides: Will increase the chance of inaccuracies.

The Sunday Times approached Nigel Farage and Reform about this story this morning.
A confidential source told us that Delo, a crypto billionaire criminal pardoned by Trump, had given £35m to Reform.
Now, as with other stories on Reform finances, it has been given elsewhere.

Zack Polanski stands by his deputies after Sunday Times and @FayeBrownSky’s scoops about Green deputies/private landlords
“What I see are two individuals who despite their personal circumstances want to see better conditions for renters. I think that’s what’s important.” 👇
“What I see are two individuals who despite their personal circumstances want to see better conditions for renters. I think that’s what’s important.” 👇
🟢New: I interviewed Zack Polanski after he was selected as the Green Party candidate in Holborn & St Pancras. He told me:
- He's "incredibly confident but not complacent" about winning on 8 October
- He urged people who "want to give Andy Burnham a chance" to vote for him in order to challenge the PM from the left. "Just another Labour MP is just going to add to his already huge majority."
- On similarities between Labour's campaign message and his party's messaging he said "imitation is the sincerest form of flattery"
- He backed Mothin Ali & Rachel Millward following scoops by @KatieTarrant_ and @FayeBrownSky this week. Full quote below:
"I am proud of both my deputies who have voted for rent controls, who have voted for social housing, who have voted to shrink the size of the private rental market. What I see are two individuals who despite their personal circumstances want to see better conditions for renters. I think that’s what’s important.”

EXCL: The Green Party confirms co-deputy leader Rachel Millward is not a landlord, but her husband is.
Millward refused to say if she was a landlord on the BBC yesterday, when defending co deputy leader Mothin Ali who owns two rental properties in Leeds. This is despite the party adopting a policy last year to "abolish landlords".
Green spox says: “Rachel Millward is not a landlord in any other capacity. Her husband is sole owner of a flat that he currently rents out, below market rate. This is a separate financial arrangement to Ms Millward. Rachel absolutely advocates for the Green Party’s policy to address the housing crisis with more social housing and regulating landlords.”
I understand Millward also no longer rents out part of her property on Air BnB - that came to an end in Jan 2025
