It’s interesting that in Ancient Greek the generic word for ‘to form a judgement’ is κρίνω which seems best defined in a single word as ‘discriminate’. Our view on discrimination is rather less sanguine.
(Of course the exact thing a real racist CAN’T do is discriminate.)

Better funding means: more courses, more freedom for faculty to devote time to teaching, more in-person gatherings to strengthen our community, and more resources we can provide our students.
Even a small gift helps us.
Thank you!

“Dogma” (that early-aughts movie) was such a missed opportunity. And it has had no lasting effect on the culture. Someone should do a proper “Dogma”, a really faithfully Catholic, yet still funny “Dogma”.

I’ll read (re-read?) the case but it sounds like dicta & I also don’t know how in a world without illegals that it could mean to exclude them. Even if the language meant to exclude those with “mere physical presence” (e.g. tourists), that’s nothing like what illegal immigrants are.
@Philip_Huff having initially quoted superseded text, now overlooks the “in each state” language added by the 14th amendment, as to which the Court said in Franklin v Massachusetts: “The phrase may mean more than mere physical presence, and has been used to include some element of allegiance or enduring tie to a place.” (Personally I would approach the whole issue on structural grounds, like Charles Black, but I know some really want a textual hook).

O, and now look, he won’t even quote-tweet me, because I might then be able to comment below him to see that, if anything, the Amended wording in the 14a is even clearer.
@Philip_Huff Love to be twitter-lawed by people quoting the wrong text

I haven’t a clue why in the world he locked his replies except that this is a preposterous argument (& so is the Administration’s) in light of what the Constitution actually says.
With all due respect, “personhood” is not a magical trump card that overrides the basic principles of the republican form of government. One cannot conclude from the bare fact of personhood that anyone and everyone has a right to be counted in the census, to vote, or to stand for office.

The Arab parties (not parties Arabs *must* vote for but parties Arabs largely do vote for) may be a tie-break in any coalition formation in the next government. It’s be the second government in ten years where Arab parties were in the majority.

This is why we must distinguish between what we like & what’s actually good. Like Isis & Smash Mouth for us millennials, we can look back with nostalgia & fondness without inventing arguments for why they’re good ackshully.
Too many people fail to make this distinction.
Too many people fail to make this distinction.
part of the reason genZ has such fondness for the prequels is, unencumbered by the pretentious retardation of chungus millenials and gen X, they correctly assess them as flawless kino, but beyond that, they were the last time big budget movies were good

What’s fun is that English has the same difference as the Greek between αἱ τριήρεις πᾶσαι (all the triremes—all those before us) & πᾶσαι τριήρεις (all triremes—all those in the world) with identical meaning. I doubt it’s because we adopted it either. But is it universal?

What happens when these become cheap enough that local police departments (or the FBI) can assign three or four to every American, observing us (at least in public) 24/7?
Purdue University's IDEAS Lab built an autonomous drone that tracks runners through dense forests completely without GPS or cloud networks.
By running 3D LiDAR mapping and obstacle-avoidance AI entirely on-chip, it can weave under tree canopies and predict target movement through blind spots in real time.
Massive implications for next-gen search & rescue and edge AI. x.com/tokufxug/statu…

Rigor is essential, but that very rarely looks anything like the false rigor of modern “cram schools”.
I don't like this false patriotism of saying that the west is powerful because we don't do rigor in school. No. You're wrong. Rigor is of supreme importance. This modern kumbaya special snowflake lack of rigor is heresy. I want my kids reading homer in greek, doing calculus.

We’re hanging out with our parish community tonight. There are nine families, about 45 children. It is the absolute best.
Also very loud.
Also very loud.
You're not supposed to say this but having kids completed me
I was taught -- explicitly -- that if you feel incomplete or chronically unhappy without a partner or children they will not complete you and you will ruin your life pursuing them before healing
That was just not true

“Remember, wherever you are,” the harridan says, “you must be the lowest and the last”.
"So the last shall be first, and the first last: for many be called, but few chosen."
"So the last shall be first, and the first last: for many be called, but few chosen."
Really, Mrs. Norris is really so much worse than Lady Catherine de Bourgh. It’s hard to see, even in fiction, such petty malice on display.
