Today would have been my big brother Luke’s 44th birthday. Sadly he passed away last Tuesday from cancer. He was a loving father and husband, successful academic and my best friend and I’ll miss him terribly.
I have spent a lot of the past few days trying to make sense of this. n’t make sense and all we can do is sit with our grief and hold the people we love close. The best advice I received from someone during my brothers illness was never leave anything unsaid. Tell the people what they mean to you.
Happy birthday bro, I love you.

Powerful abusive men couldn’t operate without other powerful men who are prepared to defend them.
Let’s see if the bar standards council treat this with the same severity they did a prominent female barrister’s tweet!

CASEWORK WIN
Many constituents have been in touch about the poor state of Yorkshire Water’s infrastructure serving Soyland and Mill Bank. Following 8 bursts in 10 months leading to road closures, 50 days of bus cancellations and disruption to 340 homes I have been pushing for ace the whole water main.
After 2 years of pushing alongside Councillor Webster Yorkshire Water have agreed to a full replacement of the main rather than patching up small areas. Work is starting in Soyland this year and I’m pushing for clearer timescales from Yorkshire Water and will continue to update residents.

THE NORTH SOUTH HEALTH DIVIDE
It is truly shocking that regional health inequality is now so severe that death rates for 25-49 year olds in the north of England are 42% higher than in the south.
Today I asked the prime minister for his commitment to work to address this so more their 50th birthday.
The apparent promotion from the dispatch box was a nice bonus too!

ENDING UNFAIR PARKING CHARGES
Nothing can ruin your day more than getting an unfair parking fine. And when you do it's often easier to pay it than challenge it. My office has been successful in getting £4,400 paid back in unfair parking fines, and the government is now ompanies can't take liberties.
- Drivers will have 5 minutes to decide whether to park and 10 minutes to leave after their parking session ends.
- Charges can be cancelled on appeal due to circumstances beyond a driver's control, including medical emergencies, breakdowns, and broken ticket machines.
- Smaller mistakes, such as forgetting a permit or entering the wrong vehicle registration, will face a maximum £20 charge on appeal.
- The maximum private parking charge will be frozen at £100.

I saw a protest from hair salon industry association today on Whitehall. It’s possible the first pro cuts demonstration I’ve seen!

I feel like she may have made this statement from Mars
Liz Truss claims the U.K. would have managed successful missions to Mars within years — if only her 49-day premiership hadn’t been cut short.

Fonagy review on ADHD diagnosis. While headlines focused on over diagnosis the report talks about the increase in diagnosis relating to school’s failure to support low level neurodivergence pushing families down the diagnostic root. I discussed with Prof Fonagy at @CommonsHealth

I spoke for lifting the 2 child limit in parliament before and after it was government policy. I talked to foodbank charities this week. I also watch TV with my kids & ran a marathon to raise money for cancer. Don’t criticise politicians for being normal people celebrate it.
'Is that a really good use of his time?'
'Raising money for a cancer charity?'
The Green Party's @floschechter brands Andy Burnham going on Gogglebox as 'ridiculous'.

This list is pretty sound to be fair
The list sent by Harold Wilson to his cabinet of “little things that mean a lot”, including the protection of pubs, concessionary fares for the elderly, empty office blocks and “the future of the pint”.
Echoes of this in Burnham’s small but popular policies today.

Public services should be accountable. But too often multi academy trusts are not. You end up with the absurd situation where a trust boss on a quarter of a million a year can override the wishes of parents with no scrutiny. That is why I’m supporting my colleague Dave e MATs publicly accountable.

Calder Valley relies on our manufacturing sector. But with the average worker in manufacturing being 50 years old we need a new generation of manufacturing workers. With West Yorkshire Manufacturing Services recently receiving a ground breaking Robotics Hub and great companies ho run the global STEM racing competition in Calder Valley we have a great opportunity to train our young people for jobs of the future. I was proud to talk about this in a Westminster Hall debate in Parliament this week.
