That is @jamestalarico getting to do the cold open on @nbcsnl. I’m just guessing they didn’t have a Ken Paxton backup plan

For the first time in Texas history a Black woman will lead the Texas House of Representatives.
State @RepSenfronia, D-Houston, says she has the votes to be the new speaker in January
She says she’ll work with Dems and Republicans for the good of Texas.

Women rule in Texas.
Seriously.
They now have the governors office, lead the Texas Senate and the Texas House. First time in history all 3 are women.

I’m calling it.
Ken Paxton is the worst candidate Republicans have run statewide in Texas since WW2.
Yes I’m piling on. But damn, Ken Paxton won less than 33% of the vote in Harris County (Houston). Even freaking Barry Goldwater got 40% against native son Texan LBJ in ‘64.

Zero loyalty.
Gov Greg Abbott held the special session to redraw districts that didn’t work.
Hosted his convention, praised Trump nonstop on the border and elsewhere.
And here’s Trump calling Abbott a RINO. No thanks for your service. Just drops him.

Jan. 3, 1989.
That was the last morning Democrats had Senators from TX, NC, SC, GA, and Mississippi all at the same time. But if Colom holds on in MS, it will happen again on Jan. 3, 2027.
Is this that New South you've been talking about @USAquarium?

Now we are just showing off in Harris County.
We have now passed 1.3M votes for a midterm election. That is a new record, topping any past midterm election.
Now the question, will we get close to presidential turnout numbers. In 2024, almost 1.6M voted in Harris County.

🚨Another record broken🚨
More people have voted in the midterm election in Harris County (Houston) than in any previous midterm in history.
With over 184K votes so far today, we are over 1.27M total votes. That is more than the previous record in 2018 even before a post 5 pm s.

We had nearly 1.1M votes during in-person early voting and vote-by-mail before polls opened at 7 am.
You still have time to vote. Polls close at 7 pm.

So much for turning Harris County red. A year ago Gov. Greg Abbott said that was his mission. But record early voting turnout plus what I’m seeing on the ground in places like Sunnyside tell me that is not happening this year.

A final push for votes in Houston as Harris County nears record turnout for a midterm election. I ran into US Reps @CDMenefee & @RepFletcher talking with @VoteAnnJohnson outside of one of the busiest voting locations.

Can @TedBrownLiberty set a new record for Libertarians in Texas?
In 1990, 3.3% of Texas voters picked Libertarian Jeff Daiell for governor. (Lots of Rs refused to vote for Clayton Williams because of his rape comments)
Brown got 2.3% when he ran in 2024 and some polls show he could get to 5% because of Rs who don’t want to back Ken Paxton for Senate.

I talked to Brown and asked him about Rs seeing him as a spoiler who could give the race to @jamestalarico.
“If they don’t want to be spoiled, they should nominate better candidates,” Brown told me.
