This is a really useful, 3-minute read on AHEP, challenging the 'myth' of future-proofing students

Come in, shuffle the papers and leave. This portfolio deserved better from this government, and yet again here we are. Ministerless
A personal statement from the Rt Hon Robert Halfon MP, Member of Parliament for Harlow and the villages and the Minister for Skills, Apprenticeships and Higher Education. 👇

Coming back from leave, I have been able to get my inbox back under control and my browser down to an un-eyewatering number of tabs. I find this incredibly helpful to ease the other work I need to get back to after time off, but I know for others that both can be stressful

More action incoming before the end of September. Seeking to extend MAB. Looks like there’s more road down this path
The UCU Higher Education Committee has agreed:
⁃Further strike action before the end of September
⁃A national reballot
⁃The MAB continues
This sends a strong and united message to UCEA - negotiate or the dispute goes on.

'There will be no change to our approach to assessing the quality of registered providers. We were not using the QAA for these assessments.' Does this mean OfS' problem was *how* QAA were operating as DQB, and the outputs, rather than the processes?

It's funny how AI at the moment leads me both to optimism and existential crisis. It's clearly the 'calculator' (how many times did I curse the teachers who said I wouldn't always have one) - we need to focus on developing critical and ethical users

Very interesting reading, particularly as an HE professional living in Kendal!
Interesting (for some!) lesson from ONS reclassification of colleges for Universities from @David_PhoenixVC : Those arguing for a graduate tax should look at the experience of Further Education – and be careful what they wish for hepi.ac.uk/2023/01/26/tho… via @HEPI_news

This is surprisingly damning from OfS on QAA's performance as DQB, turning up the heat on previous funder/regulator tensions we've seen in the previous decade:

QAA: 'we do not think it serves the interests of students or the sector for QAA to engage in a protracted public disagreement with OfS, and so we do not intend to publish a detailed rebuttal or to make further statements on this matter at this time.'
