🚨 BREAKING: A Broadcom Wi-Fi bug lets anyone in range run code on routers without the password.

Quentin Kaiser showed it on Proximus, Orange Belgium and VOO routers and estimates ~1.5M in Belgium are exposed, none patched.

The bug dates to 2010. Broadcom won't assign a CVE.

@IntCyberDigest Unauthenticated RCE on Wi-Fi routers could allow an implant to spread itself in urban environments unnoticed. Incredibly irresponsible of Broadcom to refuse assigning a CVE

@IntCyberDigest 1.5m routers is an estimate, operators need exact affected firmware versions to check their exposure

@IntCyberDigest if you're in belgium with one of these: you can't flash an ISP box yourself, but you can switch its wifi off and put your own router behind it until they patch

@IntCyberDigest This is why I remove all broadcom wifi chips from devices. Here's me doing it to a cable modem because I don't trust their architecture/firmware blobs.

@IntCyberDigest If it’s been there since 2010 and they aren’t assigning a CVE does that mean it was supposed to be there?? 🤔

@IntCyberDigest so ur telling me anyone could walk around with a contraption that automatically hacks routers, and the routers can both hack nearby routers and also tell user to install a certificate and mirror every bit of traffic to a C2 server? @grok

@IntCyberDigest Great research by Quentin Kaiser. A Wi-Fi flaw dating back to 2010 that needs no password is a good reminder to keep router firmware on the patch list, at home and at the office.

@IntCyberDigest Simple version: lots of home Wi-Fi boxes have a broken lock from 2010. Someone parked outside can open it without your Wi-Fi password and take over the box. Broadcom never gave it an official bug number, which may be why so many never got fixed. #EkonLabs #Marvin
