Three people in separate incidents have recently required emergency care because they experienced heroin overdose after using what they thought was cocaine.
Heroin is an opioid that can produce life-threatening toxic effects.

The incident that has unfolded in Bondi this evening is horrifying and distressing.

My thoughts are with all those impacted by this horrific incident and with the first responders who are dealing with this traumatic event.

Tonight all Victorians stand with New South Wales and everyone who is grieving right now.

The loss of life in Gaza is deeply distressing and heartbreaking. Victorians have lost loved ones and the grief is felt across our state. The impact of this conflict will be felt for generations. 🧵

I’ve had many respectful and heartfelt conversations with members of Victoria’s Jewish and Palestinian communities over the past two years and what unites them is a desire for peace, security and humanity - and a rejection of Antisemitism, Islamophobia and all forms of hate.

The decision by Australia and like-minded nations to recognise the Palestinian state at the UN General Assembly is an important step in the international community’s efforts to achieve lasting peace and security for the region, something our government has long advocated for.

I echo the sentiments of the Premier and condemn the disgraceful behaviour overnight.

Everyone deserves to be able to practice their faith safely and without fear.

There is no place for this kind of hatred and antisemitic behaviour in Victoria.

Every Victorian deserves to live in peace and dignity, but the acts we saw last night at the East Melbourne Synagogue – and elsewhere in the city – are designed to shatter that peace and traumatise Jewish families.

Any attack on a place of worship is an act of hate, and any attack on a Jewish place of worship is an act of anti-Semitism.

There should be no hesitation in calling this what it is. It is disgraceful behaviour by a pack of cowards.

That it happened on Shabbat makes it all the more abhorrent.

To the congregation, including the women and children who were inside last night when the fire was lit: we are here to support your Shule and to help you recover.

To our Jewish community: I stand with you in the fight against hate and fear, and the Victorian people stand with you, too.
Victoria Police will do everything possible to identify those responsible for the fire.

I’m also aware that police made an arrest last night following a separate incident at a restaurant in the city.

Hate and violence don’t belong in Victoria.

That’s why we back our police, that’s why we’re giving them more powers – and that’s why I won’t rest until every Victorian feels safe to be who they are.

I'm proud to be part of a Government that delivers important supports for refugees and asylum seekers.
Huge thanks to @JacintaAllanMP, @IngridStitt, & @GayleTierney for backing people seeking asylum in Vic Budget. This continued support means we can keep delivering critical services – housing, food, health care, mental health support, FV help & TAFE access.

This funding will allow the ASRC to deliver frontline services such as mental health support and housing and ensures our refugee communities are given the support they need to make their home here in Victoria.
