I actually agree with Johnny Depp about PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN. The franchise deserves a proper send-off, and I think Disney would be making a huge mistake trying to reboot the whole damn thing before giving Captain Jack Sparrow one final adventure.

Depp has talked about s to have a proper goodbye, and I think he's right. Look, I enjoyed the last couple of PIRATES movies, but the franchise has been running on diminishing returns creatively for years. Nothing has really captured the magic of the original trilogy, especially THE CURSE OF THE BLACK PEARL. And at this point, I'm not convinced audiences are particularly interested in starting over without Jack Sparrow.

Besides, DEAD MEN TELL NO TALES literally ended by teasing the return of Davy Jones! You've got Will Turner, Elizabeth Swann, Jack Sparrow, and an opportunity to bring everything full circle. Why throw that away? Give us one final adventure, bring back the characters people actually care about, and send them off on a high note. Hell, make it a final trilogy if there's enough story there. But give the franchise an actual ending.

And with Depp returning to major studio filmmaking in EBENEZER this month, I'm curious to see how audiences respond. Maybe a strong showing will help convince Disney that bringing him back is worth pursuing. Jerry Bruckheimer clearly wants it to happen, and talks have already taken place.

I don't think PIRATES needs another decade of sequels, spin-offs, and reboots. It needs one more great adventure that reminds people why they fell in love with these movies in the first place.

Give Captain Jack his final voyage. Then let the man sail off into the sunset.
