Pretty sure that this isn’t going to be my most popular post. The humble rat is often unfairly reviled. This little mother was moving her family one pup at a time with bravery and care.

The outrageous design of this moss mimic stick insect. Hanging out on moss after heavy rains. Such a cool looking creature.

A group of endangered Borneo Pygmy Elephants cooling off in a tributary of the mighty Kinabatangan River. A beautiful encounter, 17 years after my last time meeting them. For how much longer will we be able to experience this joy, with only 1500 left in the wild.

Might be an unremarkable little snake but it’s my first time seeing the Dwarf Reed Snake.

Last night I found one of my favourite things to find. A gorgeous Atlas moth. I will never get used to seeing these remarkable creatures.

This is a Chorotypus. A type of dead leaf grasshopper. It landed on the fence beside me while I was walking at night. The camo doesn’t stand up well on a fence, but what an extraordinary creature. I’m in awe of its design.

Well folks, this is what regret looks like. Doggo here decided to chase off a group of Pig-tailed Macaques. She hadn’t noticed the boss hanging out nearby. Big boy! 💪 This photographer almost experienced regret as these two came hurtling towards me 🏃

No dogs, monkeys or photographers were harmed in the making of these photos. Look at that F1 dog go! 🏎️

One of my favourite finds came on the edge of a Bornean rainforest - the astonishingly beautiful and absolutely fascinating Orchid Mantis. It feels like it is entirely overdressed for its diet of bugs. Extravagant for the sake of it.

The extraordinary privilege of going for a walk at night and meeting a critically endangered Sunda pangolin. Every time is an honour. One day, if we don’t act, humans might talk about a time when scaled mammals walked the earth.

@CountBinface’s policy of making water company bosses swim in polluted rivers might sound ridiculous, but is actually far more effective as a response to the sewage crisis than anything Reform is proposing.

There are lots of places I could take the bosses of @thameswater to on have dozens of completely illegal sewage spills to choose from. I think the ideal spot would have to be the Cran Brook though. It’s convenient to get to: just 15 minutes walk from an Elizabeth Line Station & Ilford town centre where hundreds of thousands of people live & work. But that doesn’t stop Thames Water constantly dumping 750,000,000 litres of raw sewage into the Roding via this brook every single year, whilst refusing to commit to our fair demand to stop all spills by 2030. I guess they might say it’s unsafe to swim in a cocktail of raw shit, cooking fat, toilet tissue & chemicals? But if this water is too unsafe & disgusting for them to touch, surely it’s not safe to discharge into our river?

In trying to be silly, has Binface actually hit upon an eminently sensible policy that most people in Britain would support?

Oof! Someone is feisty! Wagler’s pit vipers in Singapore are usually so chilled out. Clearly this big girl was not! The phone was zoomed and I wasn’t in strike range.

The unique Dragon-headed Katydid sitting on a leaf over a fast flowing Borneo stream. Unfortunately I couldn’t get close enough to get a better photo without disturbing it.

Nature never fails to boggle the mind. This dead leaf is actually a Leaf-mimic moth found on the trail in the highlands of Borneo.
