🏆 Tonight’s the night! 🏆

We’re incredibly proud that the Immuno-Oncology Clinical Network (IOCN) has been shortlisted for the HSJ Patient Safety Awards 2026 in the Patient Safety Education and Training Award category.

Being shortlisted is fantastic recognition of the work that goes into improving education, knowledge and confidence around immunotherapy and immune-related adverse events — and, ultimately, supporting safer care for patients.

It also reflects the commitment of the incredible multidisciplinary community that contributes to, supports and engages with the IOCN across the UK. 💙

We’re looking forward to joining colleagues from across healthcare at tonight’s awards ceremony and celebrating the brilliant work being done to improve patient safety.

🤞 Wish us luck!

🧠 Neurological Toxicities | IO Champions Masterclass

We’re continuing our multidisciplinary journey through immune-related toxicities with Dr Aisling Carr, Consultant Neurologist at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, exploring the complex world of associated with immunotherapy.

Neurological immune-related adverse events may be relatively uncommon, but they can be complex, potentially severe and present in many different ways – making early recognition, specialist input and close collaboration between oncology and neurology incredibly important.

A key focus of today’s session is the opportunity for collaborative working between neurologists and oncologists – bringing together expertise from both specialties to support diagnosis, investigation and management of these challenging toxicities.

A huge thank you to Dr Aisling Carr for sharing her expertise and experience with our IO Champions in Birmingham today! 👏

🌟 What is the IO Champions Masterclass?

This weekend, the Immuno-Oncology Clinical Network (IOCN) is bringing together healthcare professionals from across the UK for two days dedicated to learning, sharing and collaboration in Immuno-Oncology.

The IO Champions Masterclass has t and develop healthcare professionals with a passion for improving the care of patients receiving immunotherapy.

Across two packed days in Birmingham, our IO Champions will learn from experts from across oncology and a wide range of specialist disciplines, exploring everything from the fundamentals and future of immune checkpoint inhibitors to novel therapies, service development and the recognition and management of complex immune-related toxicities.

But the Masterclass is about more than education.

We want to bring people together.

By connecting colleagues working in Immuno-Oncology across different professions, specialties, hospitals and regions, we hope to create a community of IO Champions who can share knowledge, learn from one another and take ideas and expertise back to their own teams and services.

Topics across the two days include:

🔬 Immune checkpoint inhibitors – where we are and where we're going
🧬 Novel and emerging therapies, including BiTEs, ADCs, TILs and vaccines
🏥 Developing effective Immuno-Oncology services
💊 Pharmacology and immunosuppression
🫀🫁 Complex immune-related toxicities across multiple specialties
🤝 The role of the multidisciplinary team
📊 Metrics, outcomes and real-world data
💡 Sharing experience, challenges and best practice

Ultimately, our aim is simple: to strengthen the Immuno-Oncology community and help healthcare professionals deliver the best possible care for patients receiving immunotherapy.

We can't wait to welcome our first group of IO Champions to Birmingham! 🎓

Every patient deserves access to clear, trusted information—not just during their clinic appointment, but whenever they need it.

Walking through the consent form can be overwhelming for all, with patients needing to understand every potential benefit and risk.

We’re delighted to launch The Immunobuddies Podcast Patient Video Podcast Series: a free educational resource designed to support patients and their loved ones throughout their immunotherapy journey.

Developed with input from hundreds of patients, caregivers and healthcare professionals from across the UK and , these bite-sized videos are presented by Prof Anna Olsson-Brown and Prof Ricky Frazer answering the questions we hear most often in clinics in a clear, practical and patient-friendly way.

🎥 Watch the full series now at:
🌐 theimmunobuddies.com

Find the full resources at:
🌐 lnkd.in/eDRaBEX7
Just scroll to the bottom of the page

To help make these resources available to as many patients as possible, we have created:
📌 A hospital poster with a QR code that can be displayed in oncology clinics, treatment units and waiting areas.
📖 A printable patient leaflet that can be given to patients at the start of their immunotherapy treatment.
📌Timestamps to navigate to a particular question

Our goal is simple: to ensure every patient receiving immunotherapy has access to accurate, evidence-based information whenever they need it.

If you work in cancer care or if you support those that do, we’d be incredibly grateful if you could help us spread the word by:
✅ Displaying the poster in your department
✅ Printing the patient leaflet for your patients
✅ Sharing the videos with colleagues and patients
✅ Sharing this post within your network

Thank you to everyone who helped shape these resources—we hope they’ll make a real difference to patients and families.

🫀 Advancing Cardio-Oncology

As part of hashtag#CancerImmunotherapyMonth, we're highlighting the collaborative work of the Immuno-Oncology Clinical Network (IOCN) in improving the recognition and management of immune-related cardiac toxicities.

In 2024, the IOCN, in British Cardio-Oncology Society (BCOS), published the Joint Consensus Statement:

📖 Baseline Cardiac Assessment in Individuals Receiving Immune Checkpoint Inhibitors

The document provides practical recommendations to support clinicians in implementing baseline cardiac assessment and promoting consistent, evidence-informed practice across the UK.

Building on this work, a multidisciplinary working group is currently developing a further consensus statement focused on the management of immune-related cardiac toxicities.

🫀 Expected release: Autumn/Winter 2026

Through continued collaboration between oncology and cardiology specialists, we aim to strengthen patient safety, improve outcomes and support healthcare professionals delivering immunotherapy.

Together, we are helping shape the future of cardio-oncology.
