@ChronoTriggerPR For a comprehensive list of changes to Chrono Trigger across its versions, see this Reddit topic. It shows that CT has been degraded from one release to the next. The current Steam version is a big downgrade from the original SNES version.

REPORT: NVIIDA is getting accused of artificially manufacturing the current gaming GPU shortage by prioritizing enterprise AI chip production and forcing tech giants to stockpile unused hardware🚀

✅NVIDIA is allegedly leveraging enterprise FOMO to force companies like Amazon ont orders for AI chips they lack the immediate power and data center infrastructure to operate.

✅By routing TSMC silicon wafer allocations away from consumer electronics to fulfill massive enterprise orders, Nvidia has starved the retail gaming market and kept prices artificially high.

✅This aggressive strategy allows Nvidia to immediately book record-breaking data center revenues and shift storage and depreciation burdens onto buyers, keeping earnings pristine.

✅Analysts warn this creates an unsustainable hardware bubble that could lead to a massive supply correction and oversupply crisis once hyperscalers hit their capital expenditure limits.

Source: aindustry analyst Ed Zitron, and a separate claim made by Bloomberg and Business Insider, via @RespawnF1rst

If this is true, it shows another example of the rampant greedy, manipulation and corruption within the industry, from NVIDIA orchestrating the memory crisis to Sony falsely manufacturing a narrative that physical media don’t sell, just so they can goad players into an all digital future with no ownership, and prices that can be raised on a whim and eventually tying you up to subscriptions where you fund their games forever.

It truly is disgusting at this point💿

Romain Toutain revealed more about Mass Effect 5/Universe (this one really stings):
✨"The Shepard" was customizable and could do same moves in real combat as trailer
✨Everything in game was "stateful"
✨All choices from 1-3 taken into account
✨Called Universe so you could plug create parallel universes (simplified explanation) but you could almost generate timelines similar to Zero Time
✨You could make decisions that might contradict things you've already done and so it would create plot "points" in the timeline
✨Missions didn't fail because you killed someone, paths would remain open (it worked well)
✨Absolute autonomy was the cornerstone of the game
✨No two players would experience the same thing, would have "experienced the same story but differently"
✨"EA never sells anything. they just shut things down and sit on their licenses"
✨Barman was a new race
✨Lore was incredible around new mass relays
✨"Billy" the hand thing might have generated tentacles
✨Was an idea for sharing your saves
✨He says it was fucking amazing
it was an absolute banger and we would have loved it. The people at BioWare were brilliant
FUCK

Even though BioWare stank for the past decade, the in-development Mass Effect sounded very promising and like a good course correction. I want to see what it was going to be.

I can finally talk about Mass Effect Universe.

Since Bioware closed I can now reveal that I was part of the Mass Effect Council, saw what BioWare was building, and provided feedback during development.

• Set 600+ years after the Reaper War
• You play as a customizable N7 g a walking gun rack, you're a cross between John Wick and James Bond
• Shepard's legacy preserved, regardless of your ending
• A galaxy divided into three major factions
• Humanity, Krogan, Batarians, and more allied together
• Council races forming their own alliance
• The Geth emerging as a third superpower
• A galactic Cold War instead of another Reaper style invasion with a shadowy adversary
• Geth-built megastructures
• Connections between the Milky Way and Andromeda
• Experimental technology implanted in you as a unique point of difference
• Hacking and manipulating the environment
• See through walls, identify systems, remotely trigger hazards and more
• Handcrafted missions like ME1-3
• But with Hitman-style freedom in how you complete them
• Brutal close-range executions
• Squadmates who can clash with each other
• Romance wasn't being sanitised
• Liara returns - now an incredibly powerful Asari Matriarch

From what I saw, BioWare was making Mass Effect for us, the fans, not for people who don't exist.
It looked incredible.
And now we may never get to play it.

Warren Spector is absolutely ripping into EA over BioWare’s closure.

The Deus Ex and System Shock creator called the shutdown “utter bullshit” and said the “folks in suits” behind it “should lose their damn jobs.”

Other RPG creators and former BioWare developers have also been reacting to its closure.

When I was writing Unreal Engine 1, my time was divided as follows:

- Around 30% went to seriously deep coding on hard problems: assembly language texture mappers, C++ BSP trees, data persistence, object oriented systems design, and networking.

- Around 70% was just typing and refactoring large bodies of code needed for a complete engine feature set. This was not hard, and while I was doing it my mind was mostly on the deeper coding topics, thinking and planning for what's next. It didn't feel much different from vibe coding today, except that it was just me typing code on an IBM Model M keyboard rather than prompting it and reviewing the results.

So, it has always seemed perfectly logical that we would rely on AI for that 70%, once the AI could do it with a similar quality standard as we could, which has never been perfection. It came as no surprise that, after a few years of AI model evolution, it was able to take the reigns on that 70% and free up programmers' time for more valuable tasks.

What's more of a surprise is the emergence of AI as a sort of insta-Carmack able to solve hard technical problems quite cleverly and often cleanly, and that it's able to reason about and work in complex 3D scenes both by operating the tools and by directly understanding the raw data files.

I abandoned assembly language in 1998 when out-of-order CPUs made much simpler C/C++ code faster, and never I missed it. If prompting through architectural documents, concept art, and design plans can transcend typing code and tweaking vertices, that will enable developers to spend their time on higher-level, higher value technical and creative tasks.

What matters is the end product, whether it's a game or an engine. Anything developers can do to try out more ideas and make better software and games faster is a win for everyone.

Devastating news today. Richard “Levelord” Gray was such a great guy. Like many of our friends, I wish I could have hung out with him again. He was full of life, a gentle soul, and an excellent level designer. He was called “Levelord” for a reason. I loved the first episode of in by E2 and E3 that had such distinctive designs. We’re gonna miss you, man. You were one of the best.

Like anyone else, game companies can be cheated, and I witnessed this several times. In 1993, we at id Software played Doom together over our internal network. Now, you have to realize that at the time, we thought few people would want to play by modem or over the nascent that functionality, because it was super fun and we liked it.

Now, John Carmack didn't want to program the internet code. We hired a guy who lived in (IIRC) California to do the code remotely. The deal, as it was explained to me, was that he was finishing a project for his current company, and doing our code in his spare time, with his boss's knowledge. When his project was finished, he'd join us in Texas.

Well, when we were ready for our internet code, we called his company in California and got the guy's boss. He laughed hard at us. He told us, "This guy is a good programmer, but he is a compulsive liar. He knows he can never hold a job anywhere else, and I get he hasn't done a lick of work on your connectivity stuff. He just took your money." Well ... the boss was right. We'd been swindled.

Worse, we didn't have that code. So John Carmack spent 2 weeks quickly hammering together something that mostly worked, and then we released Doom. There was some kind of issue with the way we did it, that if Doom was being played with a lot of people on the same net, even if they weren't playing each other, it multiplied the information packets hugely and crashed the system. Within a month Doom was banned on basically every college campus in the country.

So we hired someone to give us new, robust, code and in a month or two Doom was all it could be. Of course John Carmack's not to blame - his strength was in 3-D, not connectivity. Plus he had only 2 weeks to throw it together. That dude in California was the villain and he can rot.

Apparently the US is trying to interfere with EU digital policy. This could spill over to SKG, but we're getting lots of help politically and have plans for getting protections against game destruction in addition to the ECI.
