Miyomoto's response to why AI is good is so eloquent I am honestly impressed.

@HannyahZ You missed the part where he explained how “lettering” was a beautiful skill replaced by a machine. He’s carefully answering the question with caveats. AI isn’t good by default, it automates many aspects of the design process that you may lose control over if you don’t know code

@CordialChicken You have completely missed his point did you? His example was to illustrate that back then simply being able to do that made you designer but as time passed now treshold to being called designer moved further than simply being capable of design iself.

@skengboymode You do not usually see very good takes from ppl who are decade old about new technology genius.

@HannyahZ Honestly not surprising in the slightest considering he isn't a programmer. Guy would have loved to scan in his pencil drawings into a pc and have it generate the game in the 80s.

@HannyahZ buddy, you can give the newer gpt models a single sentence and they create an entire game for you on stolen assets, bit different from going from a typewriter to a word processing program

@HannyahZ I agree with both his point and Masahiro Sakurai’s point on the contentious topic. It is a great power, but with power comes the need for disciplined and skilled thought. It no longer is about learning every individual facet, it is now about improving your literacy of the affects

@HannyahZ There’s good Gen Ai uses and bad Gen Ai uses.
I think if it’s just to boost efficiency, developers should make their life easier. Just not replace anything human made with something generated.
In the case of ppl who didn’t design. All’s good if just for fun, no distribution.

@HannyahZ Wow. Tbh I agree with him. I was skeptical about AI but with recent developments it seems a bit easy to integrate all together. Almost anyone can make a game. Even if you are bad at it you can just steal other people's mechanics. It has pretty much made it more like YouTube.

@HannyahZ Im not saying there wont be a lot of downsides to AI evolution... but one upside is we will have a brief creative renaissance, because there are WAY more creative ppl out there then we realize, and they simply lack the technical skill to express it.

@HannyahZ Well, this is immensely disappointing. The last bastion is falling.

@HannyahZ @TimSweeneyEpic This is obviously a good thing, but a lot of people just have a raging hate boner for anything related to AI, even if people are using it in genuinely interesting or creative ways.

@HannyahZ A friendly reminder that Sakurai coded Kirby’s Dream Land on a Famicom with a trackball controller. I think these guys deserve the luxury of using AI to copy basic code.

@HannyahZ Something missed quite a bit in the AI discourse, amongst all the fear mongering of AI taking everyone’s jobs, is that maybe instead our standards will just raise, and maybe we will continue to put in the same effort but to make much better things.

@HannyahZ In short, that the rise of generative artificial intelligence will not render human creativity obsolete but will instead prompt creators to reflect more seriously on their intent and on originality.
Never said that AI is the go-all-end-of-all tool. I feel the need to add that

@HannyahZ He knows that the most important skill is fostering creativity and curiosity. Reducing the friction points and barriers to developing games (specifically) is a good thing overall.

@HannyahZ He understands that discovering fun is an organic process, not about the programming language you use or how realistic the graphics are.
Democratize creativity, and let's all have fun building things for each other.

@HannyahZ the way he frames it as a tool not a replacement is exactly right. people keep acting like ai is coming for their jobs but hes talking about it like a new brush. thats the mature take
