I live in Red Country.

Our president is very, very good at telling people what we want to hear,  making us feel like he understands us and convincing us that we are victims and only he can protect them. These are all the tricks of a master big city con man.

Sadly, rural most hopeful. good-hearted, and trusting among us are often his biggest victims.

Here are just a few of his beautiful sounding promises that are really just lies:
- end the Ukraine war BEFORE inauguration
- Mexico will pay for the wall
- 2020 election was stolen
- he will release his taxes
- healthcare plan in two weeks, 8 years ago

All hat, no cattle.

The real Trump is a nanny raised, New York City suit who's never worn a pair of boots, has never gotten his hands dirty and whose idea of the wilderness is the rough on one of his golf courses. He literally thinks we should be "raking" our forests.

His tariffs will hurt farmers by shutting off foreign markets and hurt blue-collar workers by dramatically raising the cost of materials in the construction and manufacturing industries.

His blind cuts to the dept. of agriculture and interior will further hurt farmers and disruption services on our most precious lands.

He's been playing us for suckers. That's what he does.

Russia requires a security guarantee that Ukraine will not defend itself the next time we attack it.

When we have a president with no moral clarity
Trump: "Russia, frankly, has been fine on Ukraine."

Russia: being "fine on Ukraine".

Putin being "fine with Ukraine"
Russians now randomly murdering whole cars full of people in Kyiv with jet drones, now that the Starlink on which Ukraine's new interceptors rely no longer functions, due to Trump's operation to force Zelensky to sign a fake peace agreement to save US midterm elections.

Kyiv, this morning.

When my son was a year old, I would take him to a park every single morning.

My Ukrainian mother had instilled in me the belief that children need fresh air, so, weather permitting, we spent most days outside.

We lived on an island where there wasn’t much traffic, so I would gh the streets for at least four hours a day. But our day always started with a visit to one of the parks we had there.

I would pack our breakfast and find a nice spot with a view where we could eat.

My son was still so little that it was easy to entertain him. His favourite toy was a giraffe that made a funny noise when you stretched its neck. He would usually fall asleep holding one of the giraffe’s legs.

He doesn’t remember any of this, but I do. These are memories I will always hold on to.

As I remember those days, I think about Inna and her one-year-old daughter, Angelina. They were killed together.

Inna will never get to watch her daughter grow up or make happy memories with her. Angelina will never get the chance to grow up at all.

I’m not going to say that we don’t hate Russia enough, because I know I do. I don’t think it’s possible for me to hate anything more than I hate Russia.

All things being equal, the stronger side wins the battle.

The trick is to not battle with an equal:
- spears beat clubs
- bows beat spears
- guns beat bows
- tanks beat guns
- air superiority beat tanks
- nuclear weapons beat everything

Being tough is good, being smart is better. Much better. Nerds win wars.

Trump v Trump
Trump in 2016: We shouldn't have state dinners at all. We should be eating a hamburger on a conference table, and we should make better deals with China and forget the state dinners. The state dinners cost a fortune.

Trump in 2015: I would not be throwing Xi Jinping a dinner. I would get him a McDonald's hamburger and say 'we have to get down to work.' We're giving him a state dinner and what he has done is sucked all of our jobs.

For everyone wondering why the cost of money (e.g., mortgage rates) is so high.

We compete with the federal government.

Predictable. Sadly.

Oof. The 10-year Treasury surpassed 5% nine days ago, and another brutal day has it up another 1/8 of a point. No relief in sight.

The WORST Ukraine War predictions by anti-Western so-called “experts” that have aged terribly. A thread. 🧵

1. Political scientist, John Mearsheimer.
Feb. 2022: "I don't think Russia is going to invade." Sep. 2023: "The Ukrainians are doomed to lose."
Jan. 2024: "It's aine can hold the line in 2024."
Apr. 2025: "It's unimaginable Ukraine will hang on beyond 2025."
Jul. 2026: "The Russians are slowly moving forward."

Finished the John Muir Trail last Monday.

I’m incredibly grateful to have the home support, the health, the time, the means, and a fantastic hiking partner to pull off this trek. Starting at Cottonwood Lakes and adding a the Kearsarge pass resupply brought our total to around ves through three national parks—Yosemite, Kings Canyon, and Sequoia—plus multiple wilderness areas and Devils Postpile National Monument, all while crossing just a single road.

Coming from Wyoming and Colorado, I have high standards for mountain scenery, but the High Sierra is special. The trail climbs over 10 spectacular high passes, winds past endless lakes and waterfalls, and terminates at the summit of Mount Whitney—the highest point in the lower 48.

Met incredible people from all over the world along the way, including a Swiss couple out there hiking this trail for their SECOND time.

California Governor Hiram Johnson—a Consevation minded Republican and Teddy Roosevelt’s 1912 running mate—signed the original funding bill to begin constructing this American treasure back in 1915.

Today, the National Park Service budget is being cut while remaining funds are being redirected toward urban beautification projects in Washington, D.C.

Re-gilded statues are nice, but cannot replace our wild places.

Bring back Roosevelt Republicans

Gas prices are high now but not as high as they would be without the release of oil from our strategic reserve. That can't continue.

Are we ready for $6 gas?

Exactly!
One of the worst things about Trump is that he’s ushering in more corporate welfare, cronyism, and socialism while parading it under the banner of capitalism, so we end up with all the failings of those ideologies but with a generation of young people blaming the market economy.

If you concern yourself with taking care of others, there’ll be no room for lies, bullying and cheating. If you’re truthful you can live transparently, which will enable you to establish trust, the basis for making friends. We all tend to be driven by self-interest; the trick is to pursue wise self-interest, which takes other beings into account.
