Horrendous news from #Ukraine’s Zaporizhya region: 31 people killed in a Russian double tap attack on a school used to distribute desperately needed aid. Atrocities against civilians & complete disdain for international humanitarian law: This is the language of Putin’s #Russia.
Another barbaric and utterly cynical Russian attack. Russia's brutality knows no limits, and its contempt for human life is beyond any moral justification.
In Komyshuvakha, Zaporizhzhia region, Russian forces struck a school used to distribute humanitarian aid and then attacked ns were hiding from Russian bombs. At least 26 people have been killed. Rescue operations are ongoing.
And yet, even as Russia continues to slaughter innocent Ukrainians, some are looking for ways to return to business as usual with Moscow, as if these atrocities were somehow irrelevant to their decisions.
This includes those in international sport who are discussing welcoming Russian teams back into competition.
What kind of moral bankruptcy does it take to rehabilitate a country that bombs people seeking humanitarian aid? Every Ukrainian civilian murdered by Russia is another reason to keep its flag and its athletes out of international sporting arenas. Those who open the doors to Russia must understand that they are opening them to a state that continues to kill.
Russia deserves condemnation, isolation, and consequences, not a return to international respectability. Its crimes cannot be separated from its flag, its national teams, or its attempts to regain international legitimacy.
I call on our partners to respond with decisive action and reject every attempt to return to business as usual with Russia. No concessions to a state that continues to murder innocent people and no rehabilitation without accountability.

A good and very substantive meeting with Chancellor Friedrich Merz @bundeskanzler. I thank Germany and the Chancellor personally, the entire government team, and all Germans for their tangible and exceptionally significant support. From the very first days of the full-scale war, o count on German hearts caring and genuinely helping protect lives. The air defense assistance Germany provides, your support for our resilience, for our energy sector, and for our country as a whole – all of this demonstrates leadership and reflects the fact that without Germany, Europe's positions would not be nearly as strong.
I briefed the Chancellor on the situation in Ukraine and on the front. Every day, the Russians carry out strikes on our energy infrastructure, our cities, and our villages. It is important that Germany stands with us at this time and is ready to continue its support. Friedrich and I discussed the support packages and decisions that are needed. There will be a winter support package from Germany. And we discussed further air defense assistance – providing Ukraine with PAC-2, PAC-3, and IRIS-T missiles. We are also grateful to Germany for supporting our fleet of F-16s. This is needed, in particular, to defend against Russian terror – against “shaheds.” We discussed a new package of such support for our F-16s.
