What everyone in the replies should realize is that in 50 years, the prequels will be what is discussed in art classes and circles, not the OT.
This is true RIGHT NOW. The prequels have 10X the cultural penetration in the internet age. It will only get more drastic with time filtering.
The complaints will be studied as well as an attempt to understand the minds of yore, like Twain taking down James Fenimore Cooper.
The cringy romance will be understood straight because the context of what "cringe" is will be forgotten, as will what the standards for convincing acting were in the early 2000s. More technical criticisms will mostly be viewed from a historical perspective - that some viewers of the time expected certain structures from films.
The OT will be viewed as an important transitional work, while the sequels will be mostly a footnote, good fodder for a student essay on corporate decline but not much artistic interest.
You may gnash your teeth as you remember for the billionth time how much you enjoyed ESB on VHS on your shag carpet living room on your CRT, eating sugary cereal while your divorced mom ignored you, but those feelings will be filtered out by time once you are gone.
The future will belong to Lucas's capstone work, the prequels, because the present belongs to them as well.

the reason millenial nerds feel a compulsion to shit on the star wars prequels, despite the obvious cinematic brilliance, is they are played entirely earnest. there is no jim from the office winking at the camera, which makes them excruciating to the irony poisoned millenial mind

"Revenge of the Sith is the best SW movie [but I'll give you the other ones]" is SAFE EDGY.
If you don't hail Clones and Menace as vigorously as Sith, then we don't grant you the rank of Master.

You Can See Everything (horrible title) was boring and inconsequential. It's basically the continued adventures of Nathan Fielder's TV persona, so if you like Rehearsal, there you go. The performative laughter is real; my theater still suffered from it with only eight people.
Also, Tuesday tickets are now closer to $10 than to $5. Not a healthy sign.

Expecting a "genuine OEM" laptop adapter from eBay to last more than 3 months is like thinking that guy in Times Square who really wants to take your picture is just being friendly.

"Megan Ellison doesn't bankroll LAIKA, asshole. It's actually bankrolled by another old white billionaire who donates to the Republican Party."
Sure, Jan. That's what they want you to think.
If going to a movie came with even a 0.1% chance of helping to slaughter a Palestinian take that chance?
Choose wisely.

Reminder that LAIKA is bankrolled by Megan Ellison, daughter of Zionist centibillionaire and Trump megadonor Larry Ellison, so even though they put cute little queer representation in all their movies, you are literally funding genocide in Rafah by seeing them.
Hope this helps!

I've been reliably informed by inside sources that Wildwood is a "Drag Queen Story Time" movie. Lol
Kind of looking forward to the rest of the movie year for the first time in forever.
I'll begrudgingly watch the Nathan thing.
Fjord sounds promising.
Laika makes poorly written but pretty movies.
Hunger Games w/ second most beautiful zoomer actress in the world.
Expensive-looking Johnny Depp revival as Scrooge origin story??
New Snyder that's already triggering people.
D*gger and Other Mommy and Colleen Hoover junk on demand eventually.

"Zoomers care a lot about ownership. They know that if they don't have a piece of media physically, then a corporation could censor it or take it away. Video game and entertainment companies are killing discs when they're more popular than ever."
Some perspective: Physical Media peaked in 2004 at about $21 billion in the US. Ultra HD Blu-ray is a niche within a niche. It may be growing again, which is great, but it's not going to eclipse streaming. And this is the *content* market. What with the hardware?🧵 1/2

If you're depressed by the current state of movies and have the financial means, please help my boy Cody out. Conservatives, and anyone who values good storytelling, need to put their money where their mouth is and support interesting artists instead of supporting Dune 3 so they can complain on X about how it the changed the book or whatever.
For the first time, the future of my film studio, KILL THE LION FILMS, is uncertain.
After 15 years and 35 feature-length films (plus a television series) I have never once been unprofitable, never not at least broken even. My track record is insane and impeccable, especially a one-man operation.
However, personal setbacks and tragedies have led to the fact that (and this is very difficult for me to say publicly) it's looking like I will be homeless come February 1st.
I'm currently in the process of having to sell off not just the vast majority of what I own, but the vast majority of what my family owns. I have a few months to find a living situation for my elderly father to live out his remaining days, and also a living situation for myself.
I've lived in NYC all my life, but at this point, I will live anywhere that will have me and where I will be able to continue pushing film forward. And although I've gotten by for 15 years on my own and through donations from fans, it's very clear now that I need some sort of financial partner for my film studio in order for it to continue forward.
If you would like to do business with me, or be partners with me, now is the time to reach out. You will be saving my life, and the life of my studio, and ensuring that hundreds of films are able to exist.
If you don't want to be that involved, but still want to help out, head on over to killthelionfilms.com and make a donation of any amount.
I am a necessary and important figure in the space of truly independent filmmaking (hell, I even coined the term and even wrote the book on it). For me to be homeless and penniless would be an L for all of us. I've been doing all I can to make sure that doesn't happen, but I can only do so much, and what I'm doing does not seem to be enough. I need your help.

Can we bring back the big October capital-H horror movie, though?
CLAYFACE. "It's a serious real Cronenbergian movie for grown-ups with zero references to Batman."
Don't care. Still embarrassed to buy a ticket to it.
