THREAD: My proposed Missouri High School Football (MSHSAA) Playoff Format
- 32 teams qualify per class
- 16 teams in two sections (East & West)
- Five rounds
- Current district points system seed teams
- Sections are seeded 1-16
- Winners of of East/West brackets are crowned secteek played on Thanksgiving weekend
- District champs crowned by regular season points with no district tournament
- District champs receive automatic bids
- 4 automatic bids and 12 at-large bids

This is using a combination of California (CIF), Illinois (IHSA), and Missouri (MSHSAA) playoff blueprints.

THE GOAL: Preserving Missouri’s district championship traditions, rewarding sustained regular-season success, and creating a more competitively representative path to a state championship all while improving the quality, legitimacy, and competitive balance of the championship process.

Great way to start the playoffs with a Win #lockin #RB #Classof2029 #BoroBuilt #EliteMade

Not saying MSHSAA is perfect but what they do better than the IHSA for playoff football is their district points system. Every team qualifies but there’s very few upsets because the point system seeds teams not just by wins but also by points spread and opponent wins (strength of schedule). That typically evens things out for each district.

What proved to be the game-winning touchdown for Cahokia: Nigel Gooden @Nigel1of1 70-yard pass to Martavius Norris @LilNorris13. The Comanches beat Jacksonville 24-21 in the IHSA Class 4A 1st Round. @CahokiaFB618

FINAL
Cahokia 24 (8-3)
Jacksonville 21 (8-2)

The Comanches led for most of the game, made it interesting, but ultimately hold on for a hard-earned 1st round win over a tough Crimsons team on the road. The big sequence in the game was the Comanche defense stepping up with under calmly forcing a JHS 3-and-out at midfield where the Crimsons had all the momentum.

Cahokia advances to the Class 4A 2nd round where they’ll face the vaunted Rochester Rockets in Rochester. @GSV_Acct

10:27, 4Q
Cahokia 24
Jacksonville 21

On a 4th and 9, Cahokia was flagged for PI and then flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct for spiking the ball (both correct calls). Next play junior QB Rylan Rees is pushed into the end zone on a 9-yard touchdown run. We got a ballgame!

Gabriel plunges in from yard out. Edwardsville within 21-14 of normal with 11:57 left in game.

Highland turns an INT into a 2 yard TD run by #7, 45 yard drive.

Highland is starting to move the ball at will.

McCluer North 6 (6-4)

The previous 1-win Spartans get their second victory of the season and will play Chaminade in the Class 5 District 3 semifinals.

Edwardsville’s offense awakens. Williams hits Wallace for 58 yd td pass. Tigers cut deficit to 14-7 with 841 left in third.
