Continuing CBIC's outreach following the 57th GST Council, Shri Vivek Chaturvedi, Chairman, CBIC, and Shri Sanjay Mangal, Member (GST), CBIC, met with trade associations and taxpayers from Maharashtra in Mumbai, India’s financial and commercial capital, on 22 Oct 2026. Ms. Prachi ssioner, GST & Central Excise, Mumbai Zone, Shri Asheesh Sharma, Commissioner of State Tax, GST, Maharashtra, and senior CGST–SGST officers were present.

👉 Addressing over 150 representatives from trade bodies, industry associations, chambers, and professional organisations, the Chairman highlighted GST’s contribution to realising Viksit Bharat 2047 and outlined key reforms announced. The Member highlighted various measures being undertaken by the Board to make compliance easier.

👉 Stakeholders were invited to share feedback, and queries, which were addressed by the Chairman and Member, who also interacted with CBIC officers of Mumbai Zone.

Union Minister for Finance & Corporate Affairs Smt. @nsitharaman today had a virtual interaction with select members of the delegation from Pacific Pension and Investment Institute (PPI) led by their President Mr. Lionel C. Johnson. Secretary (Economic Affairs), Chairperson @IFSIFIndia also joined the call.

PPI is a global organisation with individual and institutional members from leading pension funds, sovereign wealth funds, endowments, foundations, commercial asset management, and other investment experts with approximately $25+ trillion in assets under management. India’s NIIF is also a member of PPI.

As part of the interaction today, the Union Finance Minister engaged with senior representatives from institutions such as CalPERS (California Public Employees' Retirement System), Employees Provident Fund (EPF), Malaysia, Bridgewater Associates, Morrison, Columbia Investment Management Company, Cbus Super, Australia, and Campbell Lutyens.

FM Smt. @nsitharaman outlined the policy efforts underway in the areas of energy transition, infrastructure and facilitating greater investments.

The participants acknowledged India’s macroeconomic fundamentals and reform efforts and shared their thoughts on how such institutions identify investment opportunities for long term patient capital across key sectors of the economy, including energy and infrastructure, and the kind of policy framework that can facilitate sustained engagement.

The Union Finance Minister thanked the PPI for their time and valuable inputs.

Congratulations to National Skill Development Corporation on getting its project listed on NSE’s Social Stock Exchange (NSE-SSE)

NSDC has successfully raised ₹4 crore through NSE-SSE’s Zero Coupon Zero Principal instrument, advancing their commitment to creating international India's youth. The total project outlay of ₹11.25 crore initiative is aimed to equip 600 youth with language skills and international placement support. This is the first blended-finance project which has received support from MP Government as outcome-based funding and beneficiary contribution along with ZCZP instrument of NSE-SSE. With NABARD's support, this initiative underscores the power of collaborative/ blended financing in creating meaningful skilling opportunities and connecting India's youth with global workforce demands.

Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) is actively implementing #SpecialCampaign 6 (Oct 2–31, 2026) to promote Swachhata and enhance administrative efficiency across its offices nationwide.

As part of this ongoing initiative, CBDT has in the first two weeks of the Implementation 6):
✅ Carried out cleanliness drives at more than 1200 sites across India.
✅ Weeded out more than 14,000 redundant files.
✅ Carried out successful disposal of scrap, including e-waste contributing to revenue generation.
✅ Freed up nearly 55,000 sq. ft of workspace.
✅ Resolved over 13,000 public grievances.

Union Minister for Finance & Corporate Affairs Smt. @nsitharaman met Mr. Eduardo Frei, former President of Chile and Ambassador on a Special Mission, along with a delegation from Chile and the Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean @AgendaCAF. The discussions focused on strengthening bilateral economic ties, including through the early conclusion of the India–Chile Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), and exploring further avenues of cooperation with @AgendaCAF.

Acknowledging @AgendaCAF's existing engagement with @FollowCII and EXIM Bank, the Union Finance Minister encouraged CAF to explore financing opportunities for projects involving Indian companies, particularly in the critical minerals and renewable energy sectors.

🚨 DRI busts well-organised gold smuggling syndicate at Mumbai Airport

👉 2.317 kg of 24-carat gold bars seized under Customs Act

👉 Valued at approx. Rs. 3.47 crore

👉 5 persons arrested for concealing, removing, handling and delivering the smuggled gold

👉 On 20.10.2026, lligence, DRI officers intercepted 2 passengers arriving from Dubai on an Emirates flight at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport. Simultaneously, another team caught 2 persons in the airport parking area and recovered a purse containing gold bars.
Investigations revealed the role of an airport staff member who received the gold from the passengers and carried it outside the airport premises. DRI’s swift action traced and intercepted him at his residence.

🚨 DRI busts interstate gold smuggling syndicate: Bangladesh to Hyderabad via Kolkata

👉 Gold and foreign currency valued at Rs. 5.84 crore seized under Customs Act

👉 All 5 persons arrested and Remanded to judicial custody by the jurisdictional Magistrate

👉 On 18 October gence about a syndicate smuggling foreign-origin gold from Bangladesh and moving it towards Hyderabad via Kolkata, DRI officers intercepted a Scorpio vehicle on the outskirts of Vijayawada.

👉 A specially fabricated cavity in the vehicle concealed foreign currency: $60,000 and EUR 21,500. During interrogation, the two occupants revealed they had delivered gold on the outskirts of Vijayawada and that the currency was part of the sale proceeds.

👉 Acting swiftly on this information, DRI officers intercepted 3 gold carriers travelling to Hyderabad in a public bus at a toll plaza. Three foreign-origin gold bars weighing approx. 3.147 kg were recovered from pouches tied around their waists.
