Slow and steady wins the race.
Fourteen years after she launched her business, Sandra Letio, a longtime Enterprise Uganda client, has won the UN Trade and Development (UNCTAD) Women in Business Awards 2026.
Ms Letio, CEO of Pelere Group, emerged first amongst 52 women obe. This international award celebrates the contributions of inspiring women entrepreneurs to implementing the Global Goals.
A beneficiary of both our Business and Enterprise Start-up Tool (BEST) and the Empretec Entrepreneurship Training (ETW), Ms Letio started a cosmetics agribusiness with only UGX 30,000. This grew into an enterprise that connects more than 5,000 smallholder farmers to markets while creating employment and opportunities across Uganda’s shea and oilseed value chains.

A little bit of support can go a long way.
Last week, Enterprise Uganda made yet another productive trip to Nakaseke District under the DREEM Hub Project. Headed by Heifer International Uganda and funded by the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation, this project is championing the energy in different agricultural value chains.
We support this worthy cause by strengthening carefully chosen entrepreneurial groups with continuous business development training. Out of 30 identified groups, 6 received solar-powered commercial fridges to boost their businesses in dairy value addition. The solar energy ensures sustainable and reliable access to cooling storage, facilitating an increase in production.
The entrepreneurial groups in Kalyabugo, Kiryangazi, Kijjumba, Kinoni, Biduku and Nyakalongo were filled with untapped entrepreneurial potential, which is sure to bloom further with this calculated push.
