The impact of polyploid tubular cells in the kidney is still underestimated.
👇Check out our new Review in KI where we discuss the central role of this adaptive response in the kidney tubule @PRomagnani @ElenaLazzeri2

In the kidney polyploid cells are frequently mononucleated. If only DNA content is measured they can be mistaken as G2/M cells. With cycle markers such as PCNA or Ki67 they may seem proliferating cells. Particular techniques are needed to detect them doi.org/10.1016/j.kint…

From plants to animals, polyploidy is the fastest way for adaptation to stress selected by evolution. The kidney tubule adapts to stress by polyploidy, too. We discuss evidences and consequences of this new concept in our new KI review doi.org/10.1016/j.kint…

@FoxLabDuke wrapping up #polyploidy2023 with some thought provoking messages on how to think about polyploidy moving forward:
Pay attention to ploidy levels, ploidy specific molecules, and what conditions favour polyploidy

Excited to share our last work on @JASN_News. Genetic diagnosis of kidney diseases is feasible, cost-saving and extremely important for our patients. Thanks to @PRomagnani @cirluigi @RagliantiV @giammylugli @PalazzoViviana @samuela_land @letiziadechiara
Whole-exome sequencing increases the diagnostic rate of genetic kidney disorders. This study shows that a diagnostic workflow for genetic kidney diseases that includes whole-exome sequencing is cost-effective & feasible in a real-world setting bit.ly/JASN076

Polyploid tubular epithelial cells become senescent in the long run driving AKI-CKD progression.. however blocking continuos tubular cells polyploidization through YAP1 inhibition or senolytic therapy is able to prevent CKD progression 👇👇👇
