Meet EDA's CapTechs: Communication, Information Systems & Networks📡

This group of researchers, innovators, industry and government representatives monitors trends in military communication and information systems, and identifies areas for cooperation.

🛰️ @EUDefenceAgency's Defence in Space Forum brings together national planners, EU institutions, @NATO and @esa to strengthen European space defence.

At its October meeting, participants reviewed EU initiatives, military requirements and opportunities for cooperation.

🛡️ Drone operators from nine EU nations train in #Hungary in European Defence Agency course

Hungary hosted its first international operational #drone pilot course, led by the HDF NCO Academy with EDA and the General Staff Training Directorate.

Participants came from 9 nations and many roles: marines, naval personnel, reconnaissance operators, imagery analysts, special forces.

🤝 It’s part of EDA’s work to build a drone training centre network, after the successful courses already held in Portugal, Latvia and Finland.

1️⃣ Basic training: methods, standards, concepts.
2️⃣ Intermediate training: live scenarios with simulated enemy spotting, artillery fire, and one-way attack drones.

Lessons will refine future training.

☣️At EU OPEX 26 in Portugal, EDA’s CapTech #CBRN & Human Factors tested drone-based decontamination with the Portuguese Armed Forces.

#Drones could help remove dangerous substances reducing contamination risk for the personnel.

DIVEPACK, a #PESCO project, changes that: a standardised European package, ready to go.

Divers, underwater drones and equipment, packed in containers that travel by land, air or sea. Same rules, same tools, so teams can start working right away.

Today, in underwater operations, each country sends its own divers, its own drones and its own equipment.
Different tools, different procedures: before working together, teams first have to figure out how to fit together. Time is lost.

Nine Priority Capability Areas (#PCAs) have been identified by EU leaders to guide prioritisation, strengthen cooperation and underpin #EUdefence readiness by 2030.

Nine Priority Capability Areas (#PCAs) have been identified by EU leaders to guide prioritisation, strengthen cooperation and underpin #EUdefence readiness by 2030.

#EUCO #DefenceReadiness2030

They identify areas where shortages are serious, investment needs are large or where countries could gain by working together.

The aim is #readiness: ensuring that armed forces have not only equipment, but also the people, supplies and organisation needed to act.

Some #PCAs cover an entire field, such as the maritime domain, while others focus on a particular weapon or technology.
