This is the thing that gets me. "Reduce that bill by a billion" as if no one ever bothered looking
I don't care what you're spending on infra, if someone in the company has a viable way to save a million bucks, they'll point it out. Because they'll get a bonus, or promoted.

This is exactly my point. As companies evolve they go through optimization passes.
Saving a billion a year without massive re-engineering might (**MIGHT!!!**) be possible if and only if they had done none of this work ever before.

1) It's perfectly normal to be angry. Schedule a couple of bitch sessions with your former coworkers and friends, where you can wallow! But don't do it forever,

Jackson 2.14.0-rc3 is now out, last chance to help weed out possible regressions. All help appreciated -- 2.14.0 final tentatively scheduled for release over the weekend (Nov 5th or 6th), no pending issues to resolve. But maybe you can change that? :-D

My advice is more basic: Prepare to be depressed, and deploy appropriate countermeasures.
Of all the things I got wrong in the Dotcom crash, that's what that hurt me the most. Build and maintain your connections before you need them to stay sane.
